I am curious as to whether, although Freemasons, as I understand it, do not talk about religion in their lodges, you regard Freemasonry as a spiritual practice?

Gipsyrose
Well many masons consider lodge work to be spiritual but there may be even more who measure the quality of the lodge by the companionship of the supper.
That is not to say those brethren should be excluded, but it can be difficult if they run the lodge.
By the way, the word religion is to do with linking and ligatures. In its origin it does not refer to administrative and theological organisations
Cheers

The Latin word religare means to tie. Religion is thus what ties up men together to God. In the lodge it's forbidden to speak about religions in terms of doctrine; it is allowed to speak about metaphysics, i. e. God without adjectives! If you read the works of Guenon or Coomaraswamy this distinction will be very clear.

Gipsy,
if you have a look to our Articles sect. you will have an idea of religiosity = esotericism and religion = exotericism

For some it certainly is, but to others it is a social activity, once described to me as "Boy Scouts for Adult Men".
The Tools are there to be used in a Spiritual manner if one knows how to and wishes to do so.

Personally, I regard and view Freemasonry as having a deep spiritual foundation. Though I also know many who do not share this view, others do in fact likewise share this view, each of us in our own individual and specific ways.

Indeed it can be - for those that let it.
