I was just wondering about the three first degrees in the Swedish rites. Are they equivalent to the first three degrees in the Royal Arch and/or the Scottish first three degrees?
I know there are visitation rights, between The Danish Order, whom use the Swedish rites, and The Royal Arch - and with the Scottish rites lodges.

The St. John's (first three) degrees are more similar to regular Craft (although I believe Chas mentioned that part of what he considered second degree was included in Swedish first). The same three degrees serve as a foundation for A&ASR. After that follows the St. Andrew's degrees (IV-V and VI), and these are comparable to Royal Arch. The Swedish Rite corresponds to A&ASR like this: VI can vist 18'. VII can visit 30-31'. VIII can visit 32'. Which I assume would mean that a Swedish Rite Master of St. Andrew (VI degree) could visit both RA and Rose Croix (18'). *phew* Chas, did you by any chance discuss this with my Proposer while you were here? Edit: also, notice that visitation rights are based on amity between Grand Lodges, rather than what ritual is worked (although I could imagine that some logdes are disqualified from UGLE regularity based on their choice of ritual). A list of GLs recognised by DDFO.

Yes from what I remember - I was informed by Thomas's proposer that the first 3 degrees in the Swedish rite system are in line with the 3 Craft degrees - although from my observations the Swedish 1st Degree seemed to have elements of all of the 3 Craft degrees within its ceremony.

I visited an Emulation lodge here in Copenhagen, and asked the WM about equivalence between English and Swedish (SR) degrees. He suggested this comparisson between UGLE's App. Bodies and SR (in parenthesis): Entered Apprentice (I) – Fellow Craft (II) – Master Mason (III) – Royal Arch Mason (IV/V-VI-VII) – Knight of Malta (VIII) – Knight Templar (IX-X) SR VI also has elements of Royal Ark Mariner (he said), and the article on Pietres-Stones suggests that Cryptic Rite is also part of (IV/V-VI): www.freemasons-freemasonry.com/swedish_constitution.html#_edn19Finally, the Knights Beneficent of the Holy City (see Keith B Jackson's Beyond the Craft) should also get a mention, as it sprung from Strict Observance/Rectified Rite, which also has a place in the history of Danish Freemasonry (particularly the higher degrees, VII-X), although I am not in a position to say where, how and if the two orders allow intervisitation. Edit to add: the actual content of Emulation and Swedish Rite was quite similar, but I felt the difference in "feel" was huge!
