I just learned I'll be one of three initiated when I'm initiated a week from Saturday ;D
My first thought was "sweet!". I don't really like being the center of attention, so now I won't be, but I also thought that being part of a group would allow me to listen to the experience of the others and absorb that much more. Then is occurred to me . . .
I've never been initiated. Are my expectations for multiples in an initiation accurate? Was anyone here initiated as part of a group?

I saw the heading and jumped in, only to find it was about Freemasonry ?

I have seen double ceremonies (and was one of a pair when joining Mark) and from what I have been told by brethren who were initiated together then they do feel a closer bond with their masonic twin than would, perhaps, otherwise be the case.
As a footnote, under UGLE, you have to have special dispensation to initiate more than two candidates at the same time. It happened in a local lodge within the last year where the WM initiated his 3 sons together but I wasn't able to get there to witness it

My wife was Initiated with one other, and I think she was also quite happy with how that worked out. And she has been to a quadruple Initiation since – worked fine in regards to the ritual, but I believe there were some practical aspects that made it a bit cumbersome in some parts, but that has more to do with the layout of the temple.

Unless there is a good reason, e.g. the father Initiating his three sons as mentioned or as I saw once two sons and a father being Initated at one Meeting, or two good friends being Initiated, Passed or Raised together, I don't really like multiple candidate ceremonies as I feel it robs the Candidate of some of the uniqueness of their ceremony.
I would also have thought that if a Malecraft Lodge is so busy that it has a wealth of Candidates it could "farm out" a Second or Third to a Lodge which is short of work as many still are.
As is well known in some of the Higher Degrees, such as the Appendent Degrees of the Red Cross of Constantine and Malta Degree of KTs many Candidates are dealt with at one Meeting and a Representative Candidiate is chosen with the others watching and swearing their Obligation when appropriate. I would however NOT want to see the One Day Class as in some GLs of the USA being adopted in UK Freemasonry.
On the other hand I have been to Saturday London Lodges which have worked two Degrees at the same Meeting , say a Second and a Third. A bit of a long day and tiring for the Officers unless the Past Masters do one of the Ceremonies as often happens.

Nothing like having two travelling companions on a long trip of discovery, Imakegarb. So much to share together. With six eyes you may see things three times faster than the rest of us Not long to go now... Please pass on our best wishes to your fellow initiates Our best wishes for you goes without saying. Maat

Three sons together? And a father with his sons? Oh my, it sounds soooooooo beautiful.
As for dispensation, I will be initated at my soon-to-be GL the day prior to their annual conference so, if dispensation is required, I think we'll have it (little smile).
Perhaps it's my dislike of being a center of attention that has me not worrying about losing any uniqueness in my initiation. I'm actually feeling better knowing I won't be the only one. It has a very warm, cozy, starting-the-journey-together feel to it.
I don't know who my fellow initiates are (they could be from most anywhere in North America) and I'm finding myself so very curious and eager to meet them. Like one of a set of triplets, really. I'm glad to hear from y'all that I'm not mistaken, that it may well feel like brethren in utero, so to speak.
Oh, and I almost forgot. Several of my future lodge brethren are encouraging me to have paper and paper on hand the night after my initiation and on the nights of the conference to follow so I can write down my dreams. I've heard that dreams after initiation, and being raised, are especially vivid. One of my future brethren said such dreams can even point out the direction I'm to take in the craft.
And then I read about Ruff's so very beautiful dream in another thread here. Now I'm very curious. Does anyone here recall their dreams after initiation?
And thank you Maat, I'll let them know. As for me, I'm nervous and agitated and jittery and very, very, very happy :'-)

Karen
Single or treble it should still be a wonderful experience!
There are brethren I know who went through as a double thiry years ago and they still feel incredibly close to thier other brother, and great friendships have blossomed!
I was a single inititiation, and I was totally entranced by my experience! I have never got a certain thing that happens out of my head! And I acted as a candidate in a Full rehearsal only earlier this year and I got the same thing (nearly 20 years later!).
I look forward to hearing your thoughts after! Enjoy
All the best.

Ack!! I know you can't say what that certain thing is. Ah well. And thanks BTW, I heard today from one of the PMs in my future lodge. She reminded me that 3 is a very powerful number (little smile).
