Hi Guys,
I'm new here and thought I say hi to you all. I also am in need of information about Freemasonry. I have been thinking about joining up for some time now. My Grand Pa always told me to join when I got a little older. He was a member and always told me, " being a mason will make a good man better. "
I would like to learn a little more about Freemasonry. My Father has always told me not to join and secret groups. As this is how he believes from his religion. He and my Grand Pa always loved each other very much but fully disagreed on this one issue.
Both are very good men and I know both were trying to give me what they thought was good advice. My Grand Pa died in 1999, I have been thinking about him and his advice as of late.
I am not just going to join anything without thinking it over. I know Freemasonry is nothing to be taken lightly. Therefore it is best to think it over very well before I move in either direction. That being said I'm about 85% sure it is the right thing for me to do. I think I'm just looking for the last 15%.
So I'm just here for some info at the start. If I am in violation for joining the site and not being a mason just let me know and I'll gladly leave of my own free will.
Thank you all for you advice on this issue. I also look forward to hearing from you.

Atlas, It is probably better if you take the opportunity of reading through the many posts on this forum and searching the internet for information. Try the Grand Lodge website for the US state you live in. Then you can come back with questions that will start to mean something.

Atlas, there is loadsastuff on this forum that you will find interesting and helpful. Start by trawling through the threads and posts in the "New to Freemasony" section. Ask any questions about Freemasonry you want to and at anytime. Dont worry about however silly or strange you may think they are as you will find someone here will be able to help or direct you to someone who can help. We all remember only too well when we were in your exact same position and searching for answers and information. Enjoy the forum and everyone here too .i am sure we are going to enjoy having you on board with us.

Welcome to our Forum Atlas. One of the best Q & A's I have come across is from Le Droit Humain in the USA. I am not for a moment suggesting that this is the Order for you, I think that your grandfathers Order might be the right one for you. But I do think that you might find out a little of what you want to know from this site. www.comasonic.org/faqaf.htmlLet me know if it helps. Cheers Maat

Atlas
I suggest you find your grandfather's lodge and ask to meet some of the members. Meeting his brethren may clarify things for you.
In my lodge we have a 7th generation Mason. His grandfather, father and other relatives turned up for his initiation. Lodges rather like to have family lines, so I expect you would extra welcome on that basis
Cheers

Russell & Meat,
Thank you for the link and info. I will look over it all. I would talk to my Grand Fathers lodge but I live in Texas his lodge is in North Carolina.
One of the reasons why I am thinking about becoming a mason is many in my family have been masons starting back in Scotland even before the USA was founded. When my family came here they were masons, well the men anyway.
My ancestors that came to the USA back in 1769 were masons. It is kind of like a family tradition. With a few exceptions. My Dad and a few of my uncles and great uncles. Most of their reasons are based on their faith.
If any of you are southern baptist you may understand this point. There are some southern baptist that are masons, but very few. I myself am a southern baptist. So I am thinking this over real hard before I act.

If it helps you at all Atlas, I am a Catholic, Woman, Freemason. I have found nothing in Freemasonry that would offend anyone with an open, enlightened mind (and I was considering joining a convent when I was young).
Just follow your heart - wherever it leads.

Maat,
Sorry I called you Meat. That was my mistake. It is funny. I was thinking why would someone use the name Meat? I was thinking ok he or she must be a butcher.

Well I guess I am a little late saying welcome to Atlas. But hey better late than never. I cant say I know much about southern baptist. However, I can say that I myself see no reason that any religion not accept masonry. While I am sure that there are religions that do not. I wont try and talk you into joining...thats a decision you will have to make on your own. I will say that I am fairly new (6 months) and I have loved every step of the way. I might even go as far to say that masonry has made me a little more religous than I previously was. Whatever your decision welcome to the forum and good luck on your journey wherever it may take you.

Hey, cool....just joined today....member within A.M.O.R.C and Rotary, but the information exchange within Freemasonary....seems to be more IT based.....lol....:-) Great to see ....IT is needed, .... I am really desperate to get back into IT.
But more, I realize what I still need to learn and how I am able to increase knowledge and truth, to be able to contribute myself and my work within the great organisation - to be able to earn more money, to be able to give more money to the organisation. Currently I am not really able to give a lot, but I believe,....things are changing...soon, wish you all the best...
With best wishes for Peace Profound, Sincerely and fraternally
Chris David
