I'd just like to take the time to drop a quick 'Thank You' to the Masons on this forum. Lurking on this site (and a few others) gave me some good insight into the Fraternity and helped me make up my mind weather or not to petition.
So late last December I took the plunge and contacted my local lodge. Over the next few months I visited the lodge, met some truly amazing people, had several meetings (mostly dinners, woohoo!) with it's members and turned in my petition.
To make a long story short, last night I spoke with the Secretary of the lodge and was informed that I had been voted upon and my presence is requested at the lodge on April 8th to receive the 1st Degree.
I have to say I pretty anxious and excited and this is partly due to the members on this forum. So once again, thank you all!

What a lovely message to read, thank you Adaml for saying such nice things about us all here. I must say I am a bit relieved to hear that we leave a general good impression I guess this forum is an excellent example of demonstrating to the general public that there is no religion or dogma attached to Masonry... that we all have different ideas about the symbols and allegories and that we are all passionately inspired by them to seek for more Light where-ever it is to be found. Hearty Good Wishes... and please do keep us informed of your progress. Maat

Maat Exactly, lurking here and just listening helped sort through a lot of the misconceptions the general public has. It was a good way to learn some things from Masons from all walks of life and left me pretty impressed. ;D

Many congratulation - that is great news Where is the lodge you are joining? Wayne Just outside of Boston, Massachusetts. In Braintree, Ma. Hoping to find some time to visit the lodge in Boston as well. The pictures I've seen on their website are breath taking.

Congratulations Adaml. Not sure if it is relevant to US Masonry, but once I was initiated, I found the book "The EA's Handbook" by J S M Ward very interesting. It explains the ceremony, and suggests some of the allegories within it.
Good Luck, and God Speed on your journey. May it prove for you a joyous adventure.
