Hello to all!!
Im a 27 year old male originally from miami but living in a small town in Northern California. My question is the following: I've been interested in the craft and reading books about it. I know im 27 and im not sure if its considered "too young" to join the craft. I've heard you have to know at least 2 masons in order to join. At this time I honestly do not know any. Ok finally to my question.
1) Am I too young to join, should I wait till im a bit older? 2) If I dont know any masons how can i join??
Thank you for all your replies.

Hi and welcome! No, you're not too young. 21 yrs is the usual minimum age for someone joining, some areas, however, allow people to join even younger, from age 18. And it isn't always necessary to know a Freemason personally, not everyone who joins will know a Mason The simplest thing to do (usually) is to find a Lodge in your area that you are interested in and approach them directly, chances are they’ll be in the phone book I am sure some of our members from the US will be able to give you more info and set you in the right direction. Good luck to you! Please keep us posted on how you get on.

With the decline in membership, some people have difficulty finding two Masons who have known them for the requisite time to propose and second their application. In my experience, there are generally legitimate ways around this which can be effected by approaching your local Lodge or Grand Lodge, as Bro. Leo has suggested. Enquiries may be made of Lodges near where you have lived (you may be surprised to find that a number of people you know are Masons). Failing that, in New South Wales, there is, for instance, a Membership Assistance Scheme where a designated Grand Lodge Officer can interview applicants in your position and, if satisfied, has been delegated authority by the Grand Master to nominate them for membership (still subject to a favourable ballot by the Lodge).

Welcome to the forum. To answer your questions; 1/ - No, in most jurisdictions 21 is the youngest you can join. It is best to join freemasonry when you feel you are ready. 2/ - I didn't know any masons before I joined either. I approached a local lodge and met with a few of the men from their on social occasions for a chat, and then went through the same process as everyone else - application form, committee interview, lodge ballot - the men I had met socially became my proposer and seconder (and good friends and mentors too). A good place for you to start would be with the webiste for the Grand Lodge of California www.freemason.org/
