Finally his new book has an official release date. It had a working title of Solomon's Key but the actual official one is THE LOST SYMBOL. To be published September 15, 2009: www.danbrown.com/

I look forward to reading it. If it's anything else like Dan Browns books it will be a thrilling read although I think that "Angels and Demons" is better than the Da Vinci code.

I can certainly go along with that to some degree, but think what might have had an effect is that many would have read The Da Vinci Code prior to getting their hands on A&D, I know this happened in my case for I never heard of Dan Brown before DVC so my satisfaction was not to the same extent.
Even today there are those who are not aware that A&D was written [and published] prior to DVC.

Even today there are those who are not aware that A&D was written [and published] prior to DVC. That is very true and I am afraid that I fall into that bracket aswell. The first I heard about Dan Brown was on a documentary on Channel 4 with Tony "Baldrick" Robinson. So naturally I went out and bought DVC and then A&D. Then I read Digital Fortress which to be fair was ok.

Digital Fortress is not one of his best, to be sure. I would not recommend it to any new to Dan’s work.
As a matter of interest, I saw the same documentary with old "Baldric," good show it was, too. In fact, I happen to like Tony's work as he makes some very interesting documentaries: Did you catch the one he made where Mont Segour in Southern France featured strongly, by any chance?

Perhaps that might have been the same one. I remember that he did have a chat about Fr Saunière and the Rennes le Chateau investigation.

I just finished reading The Lost Symbol and am curious to see what others thought, if they've read it yet too.
It certainly was a fun thriller written in Dan Browns typical format. Lots of chases, hidden meanings and symbolism, good vs evil, etc. The inference that evil is at play is debateable in my opinion, but is thrown in to keep the general reader intrigued and the plot line moving and to keep the hero status of the main character busy. Although I couldn't read it without picturing Tom Hanks as Langdon! There's no doubt this novel could easily be recycled as another hit movie.
There are Masonic secrets revealed of the first three degrees which I think is personally dissappointing. However, any of this info is so readily available online anymore it's hard to keep them secret. At least for me personally it was more 'enlightening' more than 20 years ago now when I received the first three degrees without preconceived notions. But back to the book . . . .
I actually think the best part of the book is the last half dozen chapters or so. It is where they get into the real discussions of religion vs science, the hidden mysteries, the lost word and so forth. Throughout the book Brown makes it clear that all religions and traditions hold a belief in diety and it is really emphasized at the end. For any member of this forum you aren't likely to find any new or different info in his book, but I think you may nevertheless enjoy it. It certainly does put Masonry in a good 'light' and I am delighted that Brown does so.
Now if only I could find the time to travel to DC to explore the Smithsonian like I've always wanted and to see all of our national monuments again!

I feel like hitting my husband over the head with the hard cover edition!!
He LOVED it! Couldn't wait to tell me all about what was in it !!
This, despite the fact that it contained everything that I had been trying to tell him about for 30 years !!!

Men...?
Wait 'til my wife reads it. When she starts in with the 'did you know...?' I'll just sit back with my skull full of wine and chuckle.

Men...? Wait 'til my wife reads it. When she starts in with the 'did you know...?' I'll just sit back with my skull full of wine and chuckle. Same here. Cheap basta*d that I am, I borrowed it from a Bro. and read it Sunday. My wife started it yesterday, and started the whole "did you know?" thing, utterly forgetting that she's been ignoring what I've been hinting at over the last 13- odd years. It ain't men or women, it's Masonic spouses. They don't listen, unless a stranger puts it in writing. That ring apparently impedes blood flow, regardless of sex. Great read, BTW. I've dug everything Brown has written, including Digital Fortress and Da Vinci Code. Just gotta remember that he's a fiction writer, and keep it in perspective.

It would appear that Dan Brown suffers from Jeffrey Archer Syndrome as regards accuracy. I enjoyed DVC and A&D but found Digital Fortress as boring as a textbook on Algebra. I bought it at an airport but left it on the aircraft when I got to London only half read, I hope the Cabin Attendants enjoyed it more than me. Hugo, I didn't get your remark about Masonic Spouses. I am divorced myself and my ex-wife was not a Lady Mason nor a Co-Mason although she was interested in Freemasonry and I told her as much as my Obligations permitted me to tell, which on this side of The Pond means that only the Signs, Tokens (Grips) and Words were not to be communciated to an non-Mason. However I know of several Masonic Couples in LDH, my Co-Masonic Order and were I to marry again I would be delighted if my wife was also a Freemason.

What he means is that those who have been Masons for a number of years have tried to talk to thier spouses about it, but they ignored it and once they read about in a book they suddenly are interested. Happens with other subjects, too.

Thanks for the clarification, Sis. Yes, that's what I meant. When this happened with Da Vinci Code, it was particularly funny- I'd been spouting off my usual Christian heretical beliefs for quite awhile, and my RC wife would look at me like I had two heads. She read Da Vinci Code, and voila.... instant gnostic expert. My ex did the same thing.

Lauderdale, there are different ways of turning these long urls into short ones so that they don't crap out in the forum software. Try using tinyurl.com or something similar if you wish.
