Freemasons’ names published on website www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/2010/05/05/freemasons-namespublished-on-website-91466-26377358/A DIRECTORY containing the names of 13,000 Welsh freemasons has been published by an investigative website. It is the first time such an extensive list has been made publicly available. Rebecca, a magazine set up by Paddy French in the 1970s, has been resurrected this month as an online publication. French, a former senior current affairs producer with ITV Wales, said: “The full extent of masonic influence will never be known until the identity of all freemasons is revealed. There are a quarter of a million masons in England and Wales, and Cardiff alone has 65 lodges

Leo-
It would be illegal if the Lodge or Grand Lodge had the process of never publishing their own members names in any form that is potentially available for public consumption. However, if they have a magazine which publishes Brothers' names, etc then it would be much harder to make a case. On the other hand, if the Lodge maintains secrecy as to its membership, the magazine could face civil and perhaps criminal liability as to its method of obtaining the list. It certainly is in bad taste no matter how they did it, legal or illegal. Ive know a few Masons so far who, because of religious restrictions, ask that their names never be published in connection with Freemasonry and I absolutely believe that is their right and it should be respected.

Agreed. I am very open regards my Masonic involvement but would prefer it to always remain my choice with whom or how I share such information.

Yeah, I agree. It's uncool to single out members of any group simply because they belong to said group or sub-group for the sole purpose of persecution.

Well my name is on that list and I have no concern about it as I am very open about my membership but I am aware of many who do not let their membership be widely known for fear that they will be discriminated against in the workplace or elsewhere
