Knos1s - I do thank you for raising a very important point and for stating that it should be recognised.
Women have come a long way and we do have some way to go. What you do not know about me is that I live in the very place that women were first granted the vote. Women had to fight for that right, and so in gratitude to those women that gave me a degree of freedom, and to honour them, I am willing to take up the challenge to fight for that right in other areas as well.
Substitute Alchemy for Freemasonry and man for mankind and you will see where I am coming from. Jeffery E Marshall, who wrote those words in "The Alchemical Process of Inititiation" - was a Freemason.
Freemasonry is primarily a spiritual quest, hence the need to believe in God and to admit only good men. Why should women be denied a spiritual process purely because of how they were born. Are you happy to have to deny your wife and daughters the very wonderful, AND REAL, mysteries and privileges that Freemasonry does afford to those that begin to understand it? Are you happy to consider them as cowans and intruders to Freemasonry? Are you happy to have to leave them outside the door of the lodge, getting your supper? (Those that rule best are those that serve best... they come well qualified).
I say again... have your male only Freemasonry, have your female only Freemasonry and have the mixed sex Orders (I am LDH) ... and if we are all equal before the Lord, why can't we recognise each other as equals in the South.

The essence of alchemy (Freemasonry) is spiritual, with the goal to make good men better.
The transmutation of lead into gold is a metaphor for this process. This is the big secret, and this is why practitioners of the Noble Art have kept it secret. For it is both a spiritual and philosophical process that sets men free and hence threatens those that seek to keep men in bondage. Free men, men that have been through the alembic furnace, can govern themselves. Free men select their governors and the government is at the consent of the governed.
