Last night was our Installation Night. We have engineered it so that our oldest member, and long-time secretary, is WM for this year. He joined in 1955 and was first Installed in 1963. And this is our 75th year. Next meeting, in June, will be out 300th meeting.
I had a bit to do. I was stand-in SW for the openings of 2 & 3, then the closing of 3 and 2. In the third I did the Working Tools. I knew these pretty well but I made a couple of mistakes. I think that is best, otherwise people think you are an idiot-savant.
I was invested as Junior Warden for the forthcoming year, as well as chaplain. That shows you that we are low on members.
The Festive Board went well, although a bit slow for some reason. I won a bottle of Spanish wine in the raffle.
As JW I gave the toast to the visitors, who were mainly from Sutton Lodge, our mother Lodge. My little joke went down well.
We left at 21:20, and five of us went back to a pub in Mitcham, including the three people who had done the WTs, oddly.
The Installation event had dragged two recalcitrant members back into the Lodge for the first time in years, and that may the best thing about the evening.
In all I think there were 4 light blues and fourteen dark blues. Not a bad turn out. Also a Candidate was announced.
