Have a look here www.gpdg.org/pages_gpdg/anglais/history.htmWhy did two Frenchmen adopt Scottish Mason Rituals? everywhere I look Scot's and Masonry pops up in all sorts of places - as freemason lodges tend to reflect the society, they are in, was Scottish society in those ancient times more open to Masonic values, or is there a more complex political reason?

Hi Whistler, It is commonly thought that the word Scottish was used not because of the rituals but the members present. Many of these European rituals may have been invented by Scots brethren in exile during the 18th and early 19th centuries. After the 2 Jacobite Rebellions in 1715 and 1745, James II, James III and his son Bonnie Prince Charlie, plus their court, moved around the continent between France and Italy. It is rumoured that they invented the Chapter of Clermont, a sort of Rose Croix/KT system, in order to assist in gaining the throne back for the Stuarts. It is believed that the Jesuit Priests assisted in this organisation of this order although a lot of it is just speculation.
