What a pleasure to receive your warm support. A real highlight on the night was for me to hear the secretary read out emails from members of this forum. For someone who grew up in several countries it was wonderful to have such a sense of support from around the world. I even had an "occasional poster" to this forum, who had provided me with some guidance on my journey, there in person.
As far as the ceremony itself, I still have a smile on my face. I felt supported and cared for, and part of a long chain of history. I particularly enjoyed a sense of being in a labyrinth, a spiritual practice I strongly identify with. I now want to spend time digesting it all and advancing my masonic knowledge. I have many questions, and also a strong desire to sit in silence, and observe, notice and absorb.
Love, wisdom, strength and beauty to you all, and once again, thank you.

Sharon How long did you have to apply to your lodge before initiation?
Karen How long did you have to apply already?

I made my initial approach to the lodge by email on Nov 4, 2005 and was initiated on Apr 24, 2006.

I suppose it depends on when you start counting. If the journey can be measured by when I starting my studies in Freemasonry, then it begins last September. I emailed the lodge the latter part of March. They meet the fourth Saturday of each month. The place where they meet is in Seattle or Vancouver, WA, in the northwest US and is about three hours, by train, from where I live.
Last month, they did first reading on my application and they're now investigating me. I'm told to expect calls from the committee this week or next. I've also heard I may be asked to come visit and be questioned but I'm not sure. I hear the reports may be at this month's meeting. The vote (gulp) may occur at June's meeting. If they accept me, I'm told I will be initiated at the next or second or third meeting there after.

It's just lovely. It's a wonderful thing, that Initiation feeling. Like being born, but without a doctor holding you upside down and slapping you on the behind. Usually.

(wild peels of laughter)
K, well, if it is *exactly* like that (if it happens), I think I'll take it as it comes.
I think I'll be happier\calmer\more excited about looking forward to it after the vote. Until the vote, though, it's hard to me to think much passed it.
I have, however, heard that it *is* very like a rebirth. And the few elements that I know about certainly match up to what Joseph Campbell had to say; such as being attached to the "navel of the world" for just a while longer; until *something* happens to move you into a higher world.

Well, I wouldn't know: it's possible Comasonic Lodges carry the link a bit further that we consider strictly necessary - birthing pools and what-have-you. We tend to keep that for the Cork Degree

So, you're saying in Regular Freemasonry, there's NOTHING in the EA degree that might be thought of as an umbilical cord, a final link to the world of darkness which the candidate has left behind?

an umbilical cord?
Well, yes...but let's say, if the umbilical cord wound up there, it might make for a troubled delivery, to say the least!
