Yes. And that's the point. This delivery is not an easy one. You HAVE to let it go but it also must be removed. Usually by someone else who came out of the same darkness from which you've come and already is in the light to which you are born. I'm a HUGE Joseph Campbell fan. Can you tell?

I have a feeling you are going to enjoy your initiation ;D For me it sure as heck lived up to all the Jungian-influenced expectations I had of it. What Order have you petitioned? Cheers, Cora

Order? I'm sorry, I don't understand. I've applied to a Co-Masonic Lodge that is about a 3-hour train ride from my home. The lodge is recognized by the American Federation of Human Rights. Last week and this past weekend, I had two of what I was told will be four interviews but. . . quite honestly, I don't know that the other two interviews will take place. The first one was pleasant and was with a past master of the lodge. The second was in the home of one of the master masons of the lodge and . . . it lasted about two hours and I don't think I've ever bonded so quickly with anyone. She's one most beautiful people I've ever met. I felt like I've known her all my life and we hugged when we parted. I've not heard from either of the other two and I have a feeling I won't because the first two interviews did seem to go very well. Of course, I could be wrong . . . The lodge meets for it's monthly meeting this coming Saturday and the Investigating committee will report at that time. If the lodge votes to accept the committee's report, then (I hope/soooo nervous) the vote will be at June's meeting. If they accept me, initiation would be later in the summer or this fall. And I gotta tell you, it was sooooo wonderful to come to this board, after spending so long talking to regular Freemasons and being soooo very serious much of the time. The guys have been and are wonderful and supportive and sweet and . . . but it was just awesome to come here and read the "What will I wear?" thread. I was so happy to see that thread. Quite honestly, this has been such a male experience for me, so far; it is wonderful to think that, if the vote does go my way and I am initiated, there might be something delightfully and mundanefully and beautifully feminine in store for me as . . . what will I wear? :'-) My but such a long answer such a simple question. Are you sorry you asked? ;D

"it was just awesome to come here and read the "What will I wear?" thread. "
Karen, you have made my day with this comment. I have been feeling somewhat embarrassed about that thread, because it seemed somewhat trivial beside all the esoterica, and yet I had had a very strong impulse to ask the question, and found the replies significantly helped the part of me that was re-experiencing being the "new kid", who wants to fit in.
And what I have found, having now been to my second meeting, where another candidate was initiated, that the people in my lodge are so accepting of each others individual differences. It is beautiful to be a part of, and each person is so unique. I am impressed with how strongly connected I feel to my fellow participants, given how few hours we have spent together. There is something about us all sitting together, through this somewhat odd old-fashioned ritual, which all these people grace their presence with, that is really growing on me. And somehow in the repetition of the ritual each person's beautiful uniqueness becomes clearer, including each person's unique way of putting what they are wearing together. It endears me to them.

It is so nice to see the number of women participants on this Forum increasing. And to see you all so enthusiastic about your Freemasonry is just wonderful!
Don't forget to follow up on the articles and links you find on the Forum. There are more than enough free books here to keep you busy for a life time - and many of those will most certainly make your Masonry truly live.
Gypsyrose - don't worry about the "what to wear" question - the men get quite carried away here sometimes about "what they like to wear"... so it's not a pink thing.
Check out the "Black Tie" thread - Two pages already!
Cheers Maat

Well, just finished up interview #3 and I was told #4 will be the same time tomorrow night. The fellow with whom I spoke tonight asked the same questions, then we talked a bit after the questions. I got the same feeling from him that I got during interview #2; like I've known him all my life. I wish the calendar would move juuuuuuuust a little faster ;D Gipsy, you might have a look at Russell's comments about the lodge and its connection to Merkevah mysticism here: staffs.proboards37.com/index.cgi?board=Kabbala&action=display&thread=1147476066 I've not been to lodge, I can't say for sure. But, based on what you've said, I think it'll provide you with some understanding. And I'm not sure I can explain why your "What will I wear" thread made me so happy except to say that, for the most part, this journey I've been on has been rather male. My gender has seemed to be an impediment. That thread was the first of a number of things that have since occurred in my life that points up to me that how I view the world, which is as a woman, will be just as important in Freemasonry (assuming I'm accepted). And it's not an impediment, it's a relevant part of the journey. It's important because men and women do see things differently. I've always been a strong supporter of intergender study. The dualism in Freemasonry is blatant. And that alone is proof that we cannot understand what we're seeing only from a male perspective; how the women see it is of equal importance. Women often have an easier time viewing things from the male perspective than the guys do the female perspective. However, just because it may not be accepted or taken seriously is no reason why women should not offer their perspective. Now I can be as serious as any scholar. I can hold my own, detached and unemotional, in any debate. My study skills are very conservative and thorough. But I'm also wondering if it would be OK to weave white ribbon into my hair for my initiation, if it happens. (little smile)

But I'm also wondering if it would be OK to weave white ribbon into my hair for my initiation, if it happens. (little smile) Hi Imakegarb, I am a Male and a Freemason - When in Lodge I am a Freemason my gender is not an Issue - Ok I wear a Dinner Suit, and some of the other Freemasons wear white dresses - In Lodge the clothing is not seen by one's senses - I can't remember any ritual or teaching in lodge that refers to gender related subjects. You will see for yourself in those rituals and teachings the things that attract your attention. Freemasonry is about Personal Responsibility & Personal Growth. As we develop these aspects all the other good things like Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth are enhanced. When I address the Right Worshipful Master I use those words regardless of the Gender of the Master, because that is the Name of the office He/She is holding - it is a simple as that. Your comment about debate - In our Lodge I can't remember a single debate. We all agree that we are at different stages in growth - so when an interpretation of something is presented by a Bro. we accept that that is their view. Somebody may say "well I think it means......." because of the truly multi layered dimension of the Mysteries .... who can say which view is correct but we accept with interest different interpretations

I just want to take a moment to congratulate Gipsy! I haven't visited the board in a while, so I'm a little behind. HGW and Welcome, Brother!

K, I've been invited to visit the lodge during what, I think, is their festive board during their gathering this Saturday. I am soooooo excited. This will be the first time I've met them all at once ;D I found out earlier this evening when I talked on the phone with one of the past masters. After they meet, they retire to a local coffee shop where they've reserved a room. That's where I'll be allowed to meet them. I let her know how very, very excited I am and I asked . . . you guessed it . . . what should I wear

Thanks guys!!
I've been keeping myself a bit sleep deprived in hopes that I'll be able to doze off early tonight and get a good night's sleep before tomorrow but . . . I've got that night-before-Christmas feeling. I don't see how I'm gonna sleep ;D

Oooooooh, I wish I'd thought of that. I *will* remember it the night before next month's gathering (yup, they said I could come back for their July Festive Board ;D ) and I will certainly pack lavendar in my baggage when I fly to Colorado for my initiation in August. Thank you, thank you Cora.
Oh, and they don't call it a Festive Board, though that's what it is. We talked about this a bit and they let me know they just call it getting together after lodge. They are such a wonderful group of people. I'm very much looking forward to spending time with them again in July and sitting with them in Lodge.

Thank you, all!!
I found a recipe for lavendar bath bombs :-)
I also got my shopping list today for initiation. The lodge is having me go thru an online shop to get everything but all the photos are out of focus. I can't tell if that's by design or . . . I think it's all part of the anticipation. And I guess that decides the "what will I wear question" ;D
