When ever I Look up an Albert Pike book I find something that I wasn't looking for that attracts my attention....Look at this quote and once again think of the battering that took place in another pasture. Masonry, like all the Religions, all the mysteries, Hermeticism, and Alchemy, conceals its secrets, from all except the Adepts and Sages, or the Elect. and uses false explanations and misinterpretations, of its symbols to mislead those who deserve only ro be misled; to conceal the Truth, which it calls Light, from them, and to draw them away from it. Truth is not for those who are unworthy or unable to receive it, or would pervert it. So God himself incapitates many men, by colorblindness, to distinguish colours, and leads the masses away from the highest Truth, giving them the power to attain only so much of it as it is profitable to them to know. Every age has had a religion to suit its capacity They are just excellant words which certainly explains some of the negative atitudes we meet along the way

I agree with you that these are gems to light up our boring everday life, my favorite author on or to do with Masonry though is A.E.Waite His writings are full of interesting snippets of information on masonry he was a most prolific writer I think he published over 200 books on all subjects from Basic Freemasonry right through to Tarot and The Occult (He even designed a Tarot Deck which I would love to get hold of).

Here is a bit of a puzzle: You can find this quite easily with Google. It is from a scanned version of Morals & Dogma, one that has been incompletely proof-read.
What is the correct word or words for docfirst?

Very nice
I have to add my 2cents that Pike IS my favorite masonic auther, if not my favorite author of all.
He just has a knack for writing things that you can take more and more out of everytime you read it

And another quote... " A few trite lessons upon the rediments of architecture, a few ordinary maxims of morality, a few unimportant and unsustantiated traditions will no longer satisfy the earnest inquirer after Masonic truth. Let him who is satisfied and content with them remain where he is, and seek to ascend no higher. But let him who desires to understand the harmonious and beautiful proportions of Masonry, read, study, reflect, digest and discriminate. The true Mason is an ardent seeker after knowledge; and he knows that books are vessels which come down to us full feighted with the intellectual riches of the past; and in the lading of these Argosies is much that sheds light upon the history of Masonry, and proves its claims to be regarded as the great benefactor of mankind. "The mastery of mind over mind is the only conquest worth having." ALBERT PIKE
And there's another one I have found interesting...

Let him who is satisfied and content with them remain where he is, and seek to ascend no higher. Does he mean the bricklayer from the other forum?

So God himself incapacitates many men, by colourblindness,
...but not women. Q.E.D.

I am NOT a fan of Pike. I feel he has much to answer for in giving ammunition to the Enemies of Freemasonry in some of his more dramatic writings. Still, if some people find his works of use, who am I to complain?

I can't read this thread title Albert Pike - is full of Gems without doing a double-take.
It always looks like it reads Albert Pike - is full of GERMS.
