Greetings one & all, hi ruff,
I copied the text from the URL below and would like to make a few comments: I'm new here
An English translation of the actual work called the D.O.M.A. (not the Fama & Confessio as presented below) was published by the PRS in 1974, together with a facsimile of the original text which is in German (with some words in Latin). The PRS edition is with an introduction and commentary by Manly P. Hall. (some interesting research)
"This book constitutes a critical overview of the Rosicrucian Manifestos Fama Fraternitatis and Confessio. Written by Andreas Libavius, one of those seemingly "critical" of the Rosicrucian. But it is known that he knew and was a personal friend of the Rosicrucian Grand Master Johan Valentine Andreae."
I have not been able to find any actual proof that JVA was a GM of the RC.
"Libavius was perhaps not as "critical" of the Rosicrucians as it appeared because, in addition to his friendship with J.V. Andreae, he was a brilliant alchemy pupil of Paracelso.
This work, published in Frankfurt, Germany in the year 1616, is one of the bibliographic jewels in the documental archives of the Sovereign Headquarters of the Rosicrucian Order."
Never-the-less, it is interesting to find the initials D.O.M.A. on the title page of this pamphlet from 1616.
JVA was very critical of the Rosicrucians in his writings, vis á vis, in his comedy called TURBO, and especially in his "Turris Babel and the CHAOS of the Rosicrucian Brotherhood". His "Turris Babel" was written in Latin and is a collection of 75 'opinions' about the RC which are in groups of 3 in 25 chapters together.
According to MPH the above mentioned author Andreas Libavius used the letters D.O.M.A. in most of his writings. He also attacked the RC in some of his works, but later as in the example above he claimed that the Brotherhood existed and supported them.
MPH (Manly P. Hall) writes that the probable meaning of the letters D.O.M.A. is Deo, Optimo, Maximo, and Altissimo, "which may or may not be of Rosicrucian importance."
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Sid
P.S. if you are looking for a relationship between the symbolism of the building of the Holy City and the bricks used etc., both by the Rosicrucians, Masons I can comment upon a diagram in the Naometria [Nova]1604 of Simon Studion. Interestingly, in the first version of the Naometria 1589 there is also a drawing of the Holy City with the number 606 which is also just happens to be the number of the Masonic Lodge in Rosslyn. (perhaps Dan Brown will be interested to know that the Chapel is a book in stone, and the Naometria is a stone in a book. Perhaps the completion of the remaining 91 feet of the Rosslyn Chapel? (13 = 13°°°= 91 i.e., the 13th being 'hidden' by the 12).
Drop me a line Dan, and we can have a chat about the blood line of the R+C etc., for your next book.
In Studion's drawing(s) he has the 'clock of God' with each of the 24 hours of 90 years = 24 x 90 = 2160 which is the number of years of one cycle of the zodiac. Each 'hour' contains the name of one of the 12 children of Jacob, and the 12 children of Joseph. The 4 foundation stones of the building also each have a number and one of the 4 'animals' of the Evangelists i.e., :
1.) Homo/man/angel = 12
2.) Bos/Bull = 24
3.) Aguile/Eagle = 48
4.) Leo/Lion = 72
----------------
12 + 24 + 48 + 72 = 156
The number 156 is also the numerical value (Hebrew) of the word 'Zion', and also the word 'Joseph'. Interestingly, the numbers on the 'clock of God' for the children of Joseph also total 156, and the triangulation of each of these 12 numbers also equals the number 1378 which is the year of the birth of Christian Rosenkreuz. In the drawing of the building/temple there are two levels, and each brick/stone is also numbered as in the circle of Studion's 'clock of God'. Difficult to describe in writing.
To close, I believe that there is a possible link between the number 156 (12 x 13) of Studion, in another of his drawings, and the head of the Green Man in the Rosslyn Chapel, vis á vis the floating head (Green Knight?) and the "virgin green branch of measure" of Studion.
Hope this is not all too off topic
