Greetings, This probably belongs to the thread about symbols. You will see the triangle (point up) within a circle which I thought would be of some interest here. www.gettysburg.edu/academics/english/britain/anglo-saxon/RUTHWELL/cultofthecross.htmlI have not been able to find a clearer picture of the other side of the Cross but it looks like the face of the Sun. There is a replica of this stone cross in the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, so perhaps someone could post a photograph of both sides of the Cross here. Interestingly, the Cross is 18 feet high and 18 x 12 = 216 which is 1/10 th of 2160 years which is the period in years of 1 cycle of 1 period of the 12 signs of the Zodiac.

Hi Sid, Small world, I live about 5 mins drive from the cross. It is housed inside the small church at Ruthwell,( about 7 miles from Dumfries) so getting in can be a bit difficult if the key holder isn't around. I'll try and get down and take photos for you, perhaps this week, (I'm at work tomorrow and Tuesday). Just a bit of usless info, but also at Ruthwell is the first ever savings bank started by Henry Duncan, a keen Freemason in the craft and early Royal Arch in this area.

Went today and took photos of the cross. The side that you mention has a sun in the middle with a cockeral on the left and what looks like a four legged animal on the right

The Equilateral Triangle is the symbol of the Trinity. The three distinct angles combine to make one complete figure.
The Circle stands for eternity, or eternal, because it is without beginning and without end.
A combination of the two, normally one inside the other, has been used numerously to suggest the eternity of the Trinity.
