Ge 3:22 - And the Lord God said, "The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever."
So:
- is this related to the Tree of Life as qabalists practice?
- what about the many images in several cultures of the Tree of Life providing food?
- what is the food that the Tree supplies?
- who is the god who forbids immortality - something that many humans aspire to?
- is immortality achievable?
Cheers

Adam and Eve were forbidden to eat of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil (Gen. 2:17), which Genesis 2:9 and 3:22 shows to be different from the Tree of Life. Of Genesis 3:22, note that they were originally permitted freely eat of all the trees, except that of good and evil (Gen. 2:16/17), so presumably they could then have eaten of the Tree of Life: In Genesis 3:22 they were prevented from eating of the Tree of Life, rather than being forbidden to do so. Thus, we are reassured in Revelation 2:7 ...To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God. The version Russell quoted of Genesis 3:22 verse is from the New International Version (NIV): New International Version © 1973, 1978, 1984 International Bible Society And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.” A comparison with other versions shows this to be idiosyncratic, with none of the others on the site I consulted saying, 'must not.' Indeed, other versions suggest that the necessity for prevention arises in the gods' conversation amongst themselves, concerning what they must prevent. And, yes, I am aware that this is a myth. However, it is an important myth in our culture, one that has often been used and reinterpreted (as Russell appears to be attempting), and is deserving of our attention, if only to expose and debunk the fallacies it sustains. Thus, I provide the following alternatives: King James Version 1611, 1769 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: New King James Version © 1982 Thomas Nelson Then the LORD God said, "Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil.
