I've been directed here by someone on the 'thefreemason' fora, so I'm going to have a bit of a poke around and see what's going on!
A bit of background, as we are doing introductions.
I'm Phil. I'm 38. I'm in North East Manchester, UK.
I've always had an interest in esoterica of all parts of the globe. Many years ago I studied 'The Complete Golden Dawn System Of Magic', and I've recently been slightly intrigued to discover that much of the same symbology occurs in Freemasonry.
With my curiosity thus picqued, here I am!

Plewis66, The reason you find similar symbolism is that Alister Crowley & Co "borrowed" ideas from this antient craft.
Which in turn ressurected Age Old ideals in symbolism & allegory to spiritually educate modern man.
In any event, WELCOME to the forum, we await with interest your contributions from the Golden Dawn viewpoint, or other fields relating to Masonry, where appropriate.
Cheers, Hubert

Many thinks for the kind welcomes.
I'm not sure how much of a GD perspective I'll be able to give. It's 15 years since I laid eyes on the 'Big Red Book', and I only ever self studied.
Well, OK, to be more accurate, myself and a close friend studied together. And built a temple in his spare room and made and consecrated a set of prarphernalia each.
Blimey. I wish my memory was a little more functional, then maye I could give some input from the GD perspective, after all.
You know what?
I'm going to go up into the loft and find that big red book right now!
Thanks for the inspiriation!

Sorry about the delay, I didn't spot the question. The 'Big Red Book' is 'The Complete Golden Dawn System of Magic' by Israel Regardie. I just tried to find a link for you on Amazon, but it appears it's quite hard to get nowadays. Theres one on Ebay, but its not the edition I have: cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=378&item=4537599206&rd=1&ssPageName=WD2VThat one would be a 'Normal Sized Black Book'. The edition i have is bound in red boards, and printed on fairly large sized fairly thick paper. It's about 12x9x6 iinches! It's also still in the loft. But I think I'll retrieve it this week...
