This might seem silly, but I was wondering if it would be possible to compile a simple glossary of terms used often on this forum.
As example when discussing the side degrees a lot of acronymns are used and are lost on a young Mason such as myself who really wants to learn from such discussions.
I don't know how something like this would be implemented but I am sure if it's a good idea that can be practically realized the mods will give it a thought?

Chris/Ecvanzyl Welcome to the Forum I am glad you have found us. Whilst I can understand your frustration at not understanding certain acronyms or initials, there is so many I for one wouldn't know where to start. Can I suggest a compromise? If something is written you do not understand jump on it straight away and ask! If I write anything you do not understand PM (private mail) me and I will explain as soon as I can. I look forward to reading your posts.

Welcome Chris. I understand your frustration - it took me a while to get up to speed, and there are some things that still catch me out. If you don't know already, the level of "secrecy paranoia" differs vastly between Freemasons; for example, while considering becoming a Freemason my great-uncle wouldn't tell me anything other than he was a Freemason and where he went ("Name, rank, serial number, sah!"), whereas my Proposer was an open book - with a number of appropriate exceptions. Some of what you ask about is obfuscated for a good reason (especially when alluding to bits of ritual), but the rest is probably down to one of two reasons: 1) many of us are so used to discussing things among ourselves in text that we're often unaware of it, or 2) the poster may not be sure what is okay to spell out clearly. I'd love to help but as I'm an EA (there it is again!), I don't feel I'm qualified to decide what should or shouldn't be clarified. I'll leave that to those more experienced brethren. Especially on a publicly-accessible forum. If it's side orders and such that you're interested in specifically, then you really can't go past Keith Jackson's Beyond The Craft ( link). It explains all the side orders available within England and Wales. I also found James Green's Freemasons Guide To The Freemasons ( link) to be a useful, cheaper alternative (I used it as a starter, but Jackson's book is better).
