Firstly Taylorman relax I am not planing an assault it was just and idle thought... when we take our Masonic Obligations we agree to the laws of our land, also obey the Masonic Rules. With reference to the United States and other Modern Western States, which forbid discrimination on the basis of Gender, and seeing how women have been able to force their way into most male bastions can a Lodge of Freemasons legally reject a person on the basis of gender, in those countries

Can't speak for the USA but here in the UK the sex discrimination acts exempt the likes of Freemasonry and Roman Catholic Clergy etc from these rules as are also some Gentlemen's Clubs and no doubt Ladies' Clubs as well and a few trades and professions for practical reasons e.g. it's legal to advertise for a Female PE teacher at a Girls School or a woman toilet attendant for a Ladies Lavatory.

I suppose you could also advertise that an employee is required to remove their shirts on hot days.... could be fun in a nunnery ;D

One needs to thread carefully here because if women were allowed to join men only clubs and organisations, and men allowed the same rights the other way 'round, then men could become nuns ;D ;D

Life imitates art. There was a recent occurance in England where a boy went to his Secondary school wearing the correct uniform but a grey pleated skirt rather than long grey trousers as would be the usual case. Now he had his own personal reasons for wanting to wear a skirt as he was a crossdresser at home and elsewhere, but he was requesting the right to wear a skirt as the girls had the choice of such a grey skirt or long grey trousers and he felt he should have equal rights in ths regard. I do not know what the outcome of this case has been and whether European Human Rights Laws would overrule UK Laws and School Rules on this.
The problem will always occur with any anti-discrimination Laws, that anomalies that the originators never envisaged will occur. There was also a case of a man who had trained and had experience regarding women's bras and foundation garments and applied to a well known chain of UK shops for a job as a fitter for bras etc as this shop offers that service to women purchasing these items. Now in this case the Law held that he should NOT be able to proceed against the shop on grounds of Gender Discrimination as this was clearly a case where the needs of the vast majority of customers would outweigh the wishes of the one potential employee. I may be wrong but I think that hospitals can still insist that their Mindwives are female, although the majority of Obstetricans and Gynecologists who perform equally intimate proceedures on women are of course men.
Honestly, I don't see even this oh so Politically Correct Government doing anything to change the situation regarding Male Clubs and Male Only Freemasonry or for that matter Convents with Female Only Nuns or Monasteries with Male Only Monks.

Even though I move to the "nunnery" I am really interested in a reply from an American Bro, they seem to have very strong Antidiscrimination Laws
