bod,we can always deregister if the need be but it may be worth a try.
Some trolls may find their way here from other sites and forums anyway and so far that has caused no problem to date.

I didn't think you could remove yourself from googles radar once on it? As I said, this is only my opinion, and I have been known to be wrong!

Hi Bod, Great to see you back with us. I fully appreciate your concerns about google. I once though that once you registered that was it - no turning back. But it's true, you can un-register anytime if you get on. Getting on though is not as easy as I was led to believe. It seems it could take awhile. The "trolls" will certainly make things busier, but personally I have little worry there. Other fora are well able to take care of them, and I believe our team of mods are second to none and are well up for any such task. Again, welcome back

Thanks for the welcome back, Leo.
It is possible to submit yourself to google an appear on their radar, it may even be possible to remove yourself from their radar afterwards, but how about all the spiders, bots, crawlers, etc that use googles search databases? I like the fact we are practicaly invisible to google, it means the forum grows more slowly, but it also means the likes of some of the more truculent posters from other forums can't find us.
Not mentioning any names in particular but I can bet there are a few that we know from elsewhere who's dogmatic approach would not be conducive to this place....
again, this is just my opinion.

Registering with search engines is not the only/best way to get better search results.
The more sites that link to this one the higher up the list you will go, so please urge as many people as possiable to link to this site.
One other thing is the use of (I think they are called Metatags), these are hidden keywords embedded usually on the home page that give search engines keywords for use in its searches, these in this case should include all the terms that you would think some one looking for a masonic forum would type into an engine.
I do not know if Proboards allow metatags but no doubt the forum owner (staffs at a guess) would be able to do this if it is possiable.
This list of metatags can be massive and can take some time to compile , however if you used the forum members to help , the task could be done in no time, here is my contribution.
Mason, masonic, masons, freemasons, freemason, lodge, province, provincial, ritual, first degree, second degree, third degree, apron, province, united grand lodge, UGLE, Royal Arch, Chapter, Mark, jewels, regalia, fraternaty, fellowship, morals, VSL, Square, compass, level, forum, discussion

I am here as well. I just don't have the time to post anymore...
The easiest way to get to Google is if you link this forum to a website. Even if that is a free web site like geocities.com. I am talking from experience , as I have discovered it is very difficult to get listed in Google as a forum. So if the admin/mods decide so it would be very easy to register to a free web space provider (as http://www.geocities.com), build a home page for the Masonic Forum of Light and in there add a link to this forum.
Sorted...

Paul and Andrew great suggestions and advice. Bill, no-one's that busy! Bod.... I hear what you're saying and I have every respect for your opinion but I don't feel we'll suffer that much. Just let them try. I say ;D

Peaks and troughs Bod,
Sometimes i log on and there are quite a few lurking.
I think tone day last week in the evening there were Seven members logged on and three guests.
but i prefer a forum board discussion as oppossed to the uk list which for me is not in organised topics in the way you receive them and too many scattered e mails .

This is still one of the busiest Masonic forums on the whole world wide web. Naturally there'll be times when it's a bit quieter than usual, but these things happen. I think it's actually amazing how well it's doing when we concider how new it still is and the fact that it's still not up and running as far as being on search engines, etc.
