Interseim writes on tfm:
"Dan Brown's new book called "Solomen's Key" is due out this year some time I believe and is primarily based around Freemasonry. "
Any comments?

Leo, Are you on commission from Dan I wish! The reason I bring this latest news is I know there are many, including Masons, who have an interest in reading Dan's new book. It's meant to be predominatly about Freemasonry, set in and arounf Washington DC.

I am just waiting to:-
1. See if the introduction to the book says something to the effect that - the basic facts have been checked to be accurate with Freemasons.
and read
2. Freemasons saying something to the effect that - no that has nothing at all to do with Freemasonry.

I have only just finished reading 'Da Vinci Code' I thought I'd better read it to see what all the fuss was about - and IMHO a good story and Dan Brown has done his research but it is still only a good yarn.

Prince Hall GL's? etc etc. No one man or body can claim to speak for freemasonry. #2 is inevitable! ;D

Well, if it's set in Washington DC, you can bet it's the old chestnut about street alignments making Squares-and-Compasses and Pentagrams. You just know it, don't you?

It seems Dan's source for his new book is some well know American Freemason. I had his name and will try to get again.
As for accuracy or inaccuracy in his new book I feel that there is bound to be a mixture of both. I doubt very much if anyone on this forum will learn anything new or revelatory and I imagine it will be primarily aimed at the uninitiated - those who have not yet got the ability to be more discerning.
When I first read The Da Vinci Code, I genuinely thought it was all authentic, so, imagine my disappointment when I discovered it was only filled with half-truths. But, as I said already, his next book will be something similar, but interesting enough all the same to merit purchasing it.

Wasn't it supposed to be "inspired" by The Hiram Key, by Chris Knight & Robert Lomas? I believe at least one of those two is a mason.

Dan spoke at length with Dr. Jim Tresnor from Oklahoma Scottish Rite, who is a Masonic Scholar and reviewer for AASR Southern Jurisdiction.
Dr. Tresnor came up here to Kansas about six months ago and spoke at a special dinner meeting for all Masons here. He said that He had spoken with Brown several times regarding the new book, and that Brown appeared to be interested in making it as fact-based as possible.
Dr. Tresnor also said that we are the "good guys" in the new book, and told us to expect a lot of media attention and, hopefully, men interested in checking out Masonry ans maybe joining.
Oh, and Ruffashlar...you're right about the streets.

[Dr. Jim Tresnor from Oklahoma Scottish Rite] said that He had spoken with Brown several times regarding the new book, and that Brown appeared to be interested in making it as fact-based as possible. Dr. Tresnor also said that we are the "good guys" in the new book, and told us to expect a lot of media attention and, hopefully, men interested in checking out Masonry ans maybe joining. Well, that's good news! And makes the plot less predictable than if he was just going out on another conspiracy tangent ... well, I suppose we can still expect a conspiracy of one or more secret orders, but having Freemasons as the good guys might be a surprising twist to many.
