Maybe we can use this thread where the passing of notable people can be marked. The 10th of March 2005 saw the death of legendary comedian Dave Allen at the age of 68. www.guardian.co.uk/arts/news/story/0,11711,1435715,00.html This followed just a few days after the passing of DJ Tommy Vance at the age of 62.

Yes it is a shame - nice article about him in the Mail - written by his friend Matthew Kelly. Loved watching Dave Allen as a kid - Was it really Whiskey in his glass and how did he lose that tip off his finger ;D

He lost his finger in a car accident when he was a lad.

Yes, a very sad loss. I had always enjoyed his humour, picquent without being grossly offensive, the rapier rather than the bludgeon.

picquent without being grossly offensive, "picquent" is a new word to me. What does it mean?

Sharp, rather like a spice but not bitter or sour. (I may have spellled it wrongly). So applied to humour it means it has a crisp sting to it, but is not the crude belly laugh jokes of the likes of Bernard Manning or Jim Davidson.
