Actually, Youngwolf, the GCR DOES hold Copyright on the antiquated (now deemed Spurious, if conferred unlawfully as Legitimate) Degrees they've Published, under US Law.
I recognize you're young, and still learning, and so, I won't take you to task on this point, but to point out that some supposed "Bodies" in the US have fallen into the grievous Error of equating "Degrees" with "Honor", thus utterly upending the whole Aim of Freemasonry.

They own the copyright on their magazine, The Collectina, not on the degrees themselves. They didn't create those degrees, you cannot copyright someone elses work. Love and Light,

you cannot copyright someone elses work. Actually, it happens all the time. That doesn't make it correct. Besides, how can something be declared "antiquated" when it has been in continuous use?

Well, for starters, most of the Rites in the Collectanea have been banned for use by every Legitimate GL in the US (and most other places) for over a Century. Studying such things is fine (hence, the need for the GCR). Performing them, on the other hand is a big, big mistake.
Throughout our History, there have been Hucksters who have tried to foist their fake degrees off on the Unwary. Normally in the Real World, you get what you pay for. In Masonry, it's more a matter of "caveat emptor". The GCR exists to keep these fraudulent 'degrees' out of use, yet open for Study. It's the only way we can keep out the Cowans, and protect the General Populace from Billy Mays'-style Scams.

It's the only way we can keep out the Cowans, and protect the General Populace from Billy Mays'-style Scams. The Rite's of Memphis and Misraim have been practiced continuously from the Mexican border to the tip of Argentina ever since the late 1800's. They have been practiced in the USA by the Sovereign Sanctuary (for one) for decades. This talk of "legitimacy" is absurd seeing how no Masonic order has any authority over another. As to "hucksters" those too can be up for debate. The AASR SJ for an example has a version of the AASR that is nothing like the original, and they confer the degrees all the up to the 32nd in one weekend. I am also pretty sure they don't do it for free. I know it is difficult for many to accept that there is more to Masonry than what is on their own front porch, but denial has no effect on reality. Love and Light,

"Based on historical research, any Grand Lodge and/or all of its subordinate bodies that cannot trace their Masonic origin of authority to the Grand Lodge of England [the Masonic revival group of 1717-Modern] is considered clandestine."++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ That mode of thought is totally outdated. Nevermind the fact that the GL of London 1717 was founded in the back room of a bar by men who just decided to do it.

Complete the damned Quote!!!!!!!!!!!
Based on historical research, any Grand Lodge and/or all of its subordinate bodies that cannot trace their Masonic origin of authority to the Grand Lodge of England [the Masonic revival group of 1717-Modern] is considered clandestine."
THE WORDS ABOVE WERE ORIGINALLY QUOTED BY ARCHITEKT AND NOT LAUDERDALE! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
By whom. UGLE and Amity, Malecraft, "Conventional" Freemasonry? By what authority?
I have emphasised the part not cut and pasted as my well known opinions of this matter are diametrically opposed to what is being indicated by selectively quoting. Indeed I had cut and pasted that part from Architket's post as I vehemently disagreed with what he had said and wanted to add my objections at the end.
I have no problem with people quoting me but GET IT RIGHT AND COMPLETE and do not put the wrong words in my mouth please.

I also heard that the Illuminati penetrated Freemasonry as well; haven't looked into that claim as of late. Been too busy reading masonic literature to do that.
