Bro. Max, the greatest comfort we can possibly have in such a time is each other. For, in truth. that is *all* we have Courage, my Brother.

"And so through light and darkness raise us, Great Master, till we are made one with Thee, in the unspeakable glory of Thy presence in the East."

Our birth is but a sleep and a forgetting: The Soul that rises with us, our life's Star, Hath had elsewhere its setting, And cometh from afar: Not in entire forgetfulness, And not in utter nakedness, But trailing clouds of glory do we come From God, who is our home: Heaven lies about us in our infancy! Shades of the prison-house begin to close Upon the growing Boy, But He beholds the light, and whence it flows, He sees it in his joy; The Youth, who daily farther from the east Must travel, still is Nature's Priest, And by the vision splendid Is on his way attended; At length the Man perceives it die away, And fade into the light of common day. - William Wordsworth

This poem was written by a man who was not a Freemason. Nevertheless it has a deep initiatory meaning. Let me share it with you. * * * Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi died on December 17, 1273. Men of five faiths followed his bier. That night was named Sebul Arus (Night of Union). Ever since, the Mawlawi dervishes have kept that date as a festival. The day I’ve died, my pall is moving on - But do not think my heart is still on earth! Don’t weep and pity me: “Oh woe, how awful!” You fall in devil’s snare - woe, that is awful! Don’t cry “Woe, parted!” at my burial - For me this is the time of joyful meeting! Don’t say “Farewell!” when I’m put in the grave - A curtain is it for eternal bliss. You saw “descending” - now look at the rising! Is setting dangerous for sun and moon? To you it looks like setting, but it’s rising; The coffin seems a jail, yet it means freedom. Which seed fell in the earth that did not grow there? Why do you doubt the fate of human seed? What bucket came not filled from out the cistern? Why should the Yusaf “Soul” then fear this well? Close here your mouth and open it on that side. So that your hymns may sound in Where- no-place! J. Rumi

May his soul rest in peace.
At this time of great sadness as he has passed to the Grand Lodge Eternal my thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and the Brethren of his Lodges.

(do not stand at my grave and weep) [Attributed to Mary Frye]
Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there; I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow, I am the sun on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there; I did not die.

What I would like, as each of us in our own way imagine Theron moving into the light, is for all of us that are able to, to spend some time each day for the next forty-nine days thinking of Theron connecting with the light, while we light a candle and be aware of our hearts, creating a wave of love, light, beauty, strength, wisdom, harmony, and peace throughout our world. Wouldn't that be a great way of recognising Theron's contribution.

I am very sorry to learn of Bro. Dunn's passing. Although I was only marginally familiar with him, it is obvious by the tributes here and on another forum that I read, he was highly respected in the Masonic community.
I am reminded Of John Donne's For Whom The Bell Tolls "when a clod of Europe is washed away, Europe is the lesser," only in this instance it seems that much more than a mere clod has been washed away.
It seems that his suffering was much in the last few days. At least now the suffering is done.

Indeed it is his family and friends who are now in need of our prayers.

I've only just read of these sad and doleful tidings. As others have contributed, I attest that Brother Theron was to me a mettlesome and worthy opponent, his opinions as reactionary in my estimation as his character was warmly held in my esteem. If he wrestled firecely in debate, it served only to make his fraternal embrace the more secure. As is often observed in the profane world, the bigger they are, the gentler their souls, and I'm sorry to see the back of him.

I respect Brother Dunn, orthodoxy needs a rhetorical voice. His family and friends are in my thoughts.
