Hi bastian
Welcome to the forum.
I'm going to move your topic to where more people will see it and answer.

In most countries the pre-talk is for you to ask your questions about freemasonry, and to explain about why you want to join, what will be expected of you if you are accepted for membership, and some details about the joining process.
Thomas should be able to help out more specifically with what happens in Denmark.

Hi Bastian, first off, welcome to the forum - this place really helped my in the process leading up to the actual Initiation, and I hope it will do the same for you. I detailed some of my own experiences in my blog, and part 4 deals with the actual joining process. I joined The Danish Order of Freemasons (DDFO), so that's where I'm coming from. For me the info meeting came first. I hadn't talked to anybody beforehand about joining, as I didn't know anyone, so I mailed the Secretary, and he hooked me up with somebody. The information was very general, but there was a chance to ask questions and see one of the lodge rooms. After the emailed I contacted the fellow who had been my contact, and I guess you could call what we had a pre-talk. We met at a café, had a beer, and I asked all the questions I could think of. Some of them were quite critical, as I wanted to dispel some prejudices (so that I knew to stay away if they weren't). He basically wanted to know a little about me, and I volunteered the reasons for my interest. Even though I really asked some critical questions, it was all very friendly, and afterwards there was a good foundation for more talks. The topics mentioned by Penfold were covered. I think we talked for an hour and a half the first time, but once the trust were there, the next two talks were longer and more personal - but I think that depends a lot on how you hit it off with the interviewer(s). May I ask which lodge you are visiting in January?

Hi Bastian,
Over here the ‘pre-talk’ is usually a very informal gathering with a couple of Brothers and the prospective candidate. Sometimes it could be done in the candidate’s or a Brother’s home or indeed I’ve seen it done in local pub over a glass of beer! It should give you an opportunity to ask ANY question you want a bout the Craft and within certain limitations they will be answered. It is also an opportunity for these Brother’s to explain something of the process of joining, what they do in the Lodge and a little by way of the costs involved, etc.
Thereafter there will be a formal interview, usually conducted in the Lodge where certain questions will be put to by an Enquiry Committee of Brethren of the Lodge. But again there is nothing to worry about as by that time you will have already made up your mind to join and hopefully, for all the right reasons! Your proposers should brief you about the Enquiry Committee meeting so you should be able to relax, and even enjoy it. It’s a chance to meet more of the Brethren of the Lodge and see the interior of the place; and remember, we are all human!

Hi All
Thank you for your answers
I went to the interview, and it went really well, very nice people. I meet 2 and we had a very good time after the meeting they choose to be my mentors since I had none inside.
So now we are in contact and will meet again in janaur for the general informations meeting and they will bring it up in the Lodge soon.
Some of you ask me which Lodge: Sankt Johanneslogen FREDERIK VII in Hillerød

Great. Hillerød is within striking distance! Let us know how it goes, and I'll see if can't make it to your Initiation, if you decide to move forward. Can I ask*, what made you act upon your desire to become a freemason? You said you had the interest for a while – what made you decide to make it happen? ---- *) I know that might be kind of personal, but the reason I ask is, the Danish Order of Freemasons leads a very low key existance, yet people still hear about it and want to be part of it, why is that? I know what moved me, but I'm curious about all the others. How do we keep people interested in the Royal Art? Also, people bring different expectations to the table, and fora like these are an opportunity to exchange views and experiences.

Superb news bastian!
Good luck for the rest of your journey, and thanks to all who took the time to respond - even better news is that you and Thomas live within striking distance of each other.
Please keep visiting here bastian, and feel free to ask more questions.

I have met with Bastian, and I am glad to say that things have been progressing, and he is set to be Initiated into St. John's Lodge Frederik VII on 8. February. Unfortunately, I'll be away on holiday next week, but we have agreed to visit soon.

Just wanted to update people that Bastian is now our Brother. I couldn't be there myself for the event, but I heard he handled himself very well and was duly overwhelmed. We're in contact, and there'll be other opportunities to meet up in the future.

Afternoon all! My name is Doug, 24 yr old blind soul also in search of light from Chicago here! I finally made some contact with someone from a near lodge and will be receiving a phone call tomorrow night. Took me a little while to actually go ahead and contact someone...unfortunately the only masons i know are either deceased or demitted and could not really help me much in my search. But hopefully the discussion i have with the gentleman tomorrow will be very helpful! wish me luck! -Doug
