Copied from Wikipedia: An empath or telempath is a person who has an acute or highly developed sense of empathy. In the paranormal and in some works of science fiction and fantasy, empathy is a paranormal or psychic ability to sense the emotions of others. It is distinguished from telepathy, which allows one to perceive thoughts as well. Occasionally empaths are also able to project their own emotions, or to affect the emotions of others.

Thank you Siontific. May we assume that the empath is one with hieghtened sensitivity to emotions in others or in various locations? A person able to sence malicious emotions in old haunted buildings, the kinds who may be mediums and ghost hunters; are these empaths?

The very best information we have about empaths is from Star Trek episodes, where their existence first was documented. The earliest of these was an empath named "Gem". The best known of of the Star Trek empaths, and a fave with many male viewers, Deanna TroyI hope that helps

I could be described as an empath. It has its good points and not so good. It is harder to be continually happy within one's self when one is more aware of the anguish and suffering of those around you. It does make it easier though to recognise where there is 'work' to be done.
I find crowds disturbing... for me it is like being forced to stay in a room where the music is too loud (though it has nothing to do with sound). When driving, there are also some places where I can't pass without feeling that I DO NOT LIKE this place. It is not so obvious when I pass the 'really good' places for some reason.
I would not call myself psychic, though I have the odd experience every now and then, entirely involuntary.

It could be that empathy is healthy and that those who are not empathic are not yet fully functional or have excessive psychological armor
Of course if there are unresolved psychological traumas then a person may be excessively sensitive to emotional and physical events and conditions

Writing fiction is not documenting, it is imagining.

Drew, I notice this is your first post so welcome to the MFoL
You will no doubt notice that many on this forum are seeking to deepen their understanding of Masonry and the meaning of Life generally.
And many of them, being Masons, know that important matters may be veiled in allegory and illustrated by symbols and thus they look for wisdom in unexpected places.
I hope that you find it an enjoyable process too.
Cheers

maat its possible to prevent large groups to overcrowd u by retreating to the center.. the same goes for bad places (though if u stay there long enough or dont xpect it, it can impact your state of mind).. the reason u tend to notice good places less obvious is cause its conflicting less with your self.. (though a beautiful place will still tend to make u happy(er)).. of course beauty depends on taste so 1 persons perception of beauty can be another persons perception of hell..
