Does anyone know the reason that the WM addresses the JW & SW as Brother (Surname) during the opening, but there after as Brother Junior Warden?
I am sure that there must be a reason, just one of the things that I noticed during last months meeting!

Prior to the lodge opening he is simply brother or w brother, but once the lodge is open he then holds the office of SW or JW and is addressed as such.
I think....

Sarge, it is only after the WM calls the Lodge to order, that office bearers are named by their offical designations, not when he says the lodge is opened. I think its the same in your constitution.

Does that mean once the WM says '...and will remain closed until the Xth day in January emergencies excepted....' and the DC forms the leaving parade, all brethern are named by their name and not designation? I think that our lodge still use office designations for this task.

In most UGLE Lodges I have attended, whatever Ritual used, at the very start of the Opening the WM Addresses the JW and SW respectively by their Surnames, "Bro Bloggs, what is the First Care of every Freemason?" and the IG is likewise addressed by the JW, but once the WM calls upon the Brethren to Order as Freemason Titles are then used. In the Closing, although the SW Closes the Lodge "In the Name of TGAOTU and by Command of the WM", titles are still used while the DC forms up the Procession out of the Temple. Afterwards although names will be used, at the Festive Board the Officers will be Addressed by their Titles "Brother Wardens, how do you report your respective Columns?" etc. I consider it as a matter of courtesy.

I think that our lodge still use office designations for this task. AS does mine - and most lodges that process out do - but if I remember correctly its by office title only and not by name - i. WM, SW, JW, etc without a personalistation. Not to clear on the why though.....
