Shriner and former Potentate Ray Highsmith, of Khedive Shrine Temple in Hampton Roads, Virginia, is in federal custody after agents discovered over 1,000 images on his computer of child pornography, some of it showing acts of sadomasochism, NewsChannel 3 has reported. Highsmith admitted to having not one, but two memberships to an online child porn site. burningtaper.blogspot.com

Thanks Wayne...
This news item makes me wonder how well vetted new people are - and even more importantly how do sadomasachists et al rise so high without being detected? Is it a case of he who makes the most noise, or walks the fastest, is just allowed through? Are there few who will move in front of their path and enquire as to their direction?
It has also set me to wondering whether this particular news item, and others like them, should be megaphoned. It must surely wound those beautiful souls, his fellow Brn, who devote so much time an effort to the very worthy Shriner's charities. Why wound so many for the sake of one?

I don't think this is a Masonic News item at all. There is nothing Masonic about it. This man may also have been a carpenter his whole life too. Is the phrase "Carpenter Busted for Child Porn" headline worthy? I don't think this is either. There are bad apples in any bunch and the world is full of walking contradictions.
Yes, the fact that the Shriners work so closely with children makes this quite upsetting, but definitely not Masonic news. It's just Bad News.

Bad news inded - unfortunately, it is his Shriner (and hence masonic) link that has been highlighted
I suppose because we do hold masons to a high standard of conduct it is inevitable that it gets highlighted when one of our number falls short of that ideal
