I was just chatting on another forum and I wondered what the thought were generally on holding White Table meetings.
And what Criteria should be adopted. Many times I have been asked, ' it would be great to come along to one of your meetings , but my Order is not recognised by UGLE.
The visitor could not attend the stated meeting, but I believe would be most welcome at the Festive Board which could play a larger role.
Well , a White Table means you can invite everyone, so would there be a problem with say Co Masons attending a UGLE White Table. Or maybe Jeff Peace could fly over and buy me that pint he always promised.
It would be interesting to get other opinions .................

It sounds great to me. Our public meetings/dinners do not exclude anyone. I would enjoy seeing co-Masons or female Masons at our functions. The T.O. lodge I recently attended allowed a non-Mason and a woman (don't know if she was a Mason or not) into the lodge while at rest, and again at the festive lodge. S&F

My Co-Masonic lodge has in the past, opened, called off - had UGLE amity and non masons attend the festive board - and address us on matters close to their hearts - we then close the lodge and rejoin them.
They always displayed an interest in viewing the lodgeroom and asking questions.
We have not done it often, but each occasion that it has happened, it has been memorable. We have even gained membership.
I think it would be a great idea if more would try this idea. I do think that the host lodge should make a determined effort to not allow it to descend into a social function where 'the women' and 'the curious' can attend.
It is important to conduct it as a serious endeavour to expand our knowledge and understanding of the wider community - and just a importantly for them to understand and gain more knowledge of us.

In LDH we have often have such Open Days where everyone is invited. The idea is to give the general public an opportunity to learn a bit more about us, and from these exercises we have attracted some who took things further and petitioned for membership.
Also, on these occasions we get visitors from other Masonic organisations who come along to see what all the talk is about. They are made very welcome and often come to the next such meetings as well.
I personally feel such meetings are very helpful.

I hope to receive an opportunity to visit one such meeting someday. I cannot see any harm coming from greater knowledge about each other.

Yes, organization is a key portion of planning any meeting, though I have seen more than a few enjoyed to the fullest capacity even though poorly planned. ;D
