I am a Mason from Florida, I have no desire to belong to a lodge in Florida any more as I feel Masonry here is so diluted and has lost the way. I was made an Honorary member of a lodge in Scotland last year. If I demit from my lodge in Florida will I still be able to attend lodge meeting in Scotland or elsewhere
Thanks in advance

Instead of quitting, why not try to change things for the better?

If Grand Lodge of Scotland is the same as UGLE which I believe is correct.
As an Honorary member you are only entitled to attend one meeting per year, as a Country Memebr or full member you can attend any meeting of any Lodge anywhere in the world that is in amnity with your membership Lodge.
So the answer might be to become a full member.

Law 131 in Scotland basicly states that Hon membership can be conferred upon someone who is a "member" of a lodge in amity and shall have the same privileges as a full members except voting, taking office, etc. Therefore I would say that you still had to be a "member" of a lodge for your Hon membership to remain valid.
You could always e-mail our G Sec and ask him.

They are correct. The proper way to demit would be to petition a lodge for plural membership that belongs to a GL that allows it. Once you have the dual membership you can demit from your Florida lodge and still keep your status. You *might* be able to petition the lodge in Scotland you already have an honorary membership in, but since that crosses international boundries I suggest you e-mail your GL Secretary and ask it the GL of Florida allows dual memberships with the GLoS...and vice versa.

Brothers , thank you for your help. I spoke to the secretary (who is a good friend of mine)from the lodge in Scotland and he is going to get in touch with GL of Scotland to find out the correct way of going about this. Br.maximus , I do not know where you are a mason , but I have been a Mason in Florida for just over 5 years. I have tried to introduce little changes but everything gets shot down in flames. I'm in Tennessee. It's not easy to change things no matter where you are.

Most Grand Lodges do which would prevent our Brother from becoming a full member of a lodge in another country.

I am confident that UGLE expects a member to be a paid up member of a Lodge in some way.
I have sent a message to a PGL Secretary in Scotland of my acquaintance and await the answer.

Absolutely Bill. Part of being a member "in good standing" is that their dues are current.

One suggestion would to move up to Canada where Masonry is still being practiced the way the English do it.

That would be good, but sometimes that's hard just to move to some place right away.
