In case it hasn't been noticed it's the 05/05/05. Is there any esoteric connection?

I suspect the principal reason was mnemonic: easier for the electorate to remember.
However, as May has always been considered fortuitous for beginnings, and has long been special to the Virgin Mary (a manifestation of the feminine part of the Divine) and to the Labour and Socialist Movements, it's certainly redolent with associations intended to be picked up by those who are sensitive to such resonances.
Although March (Martius mensis, month of Mars) is behind us, still red is the Martial colour and that of the Labour party: Mars was patron of all battles, even elections; but patron also of agriculture, beneficial when broadcasting (sowing seed). Similarly, five is his number, suggesting the five-rayed Pentangle, the star of Socialism. Three fives are good - indeed, have proven to be good - for a third term of office.
Lastly, 05/05/05 immediately preceded Tony Blair's own birthday, surely a fateful date for oneself and one's own personal magic.

Interesting, but even I do not see any particularly esoteric aspect to the date of this recent Election.
For a start it seems to have become the convention now that although a Parliament can run for 5 years most PMs cut and run after 4. Blair did so last time in 2001 instead of 2002, Thatcher did twice in 1983 and 1987 and both did well, whereas Major took the whole 5 years to 1992 and Kinnock lost rather than Major won that election then of course Major had to take the whole 5 years till he was swept out in May 1997.
So given that Blair wanted to go for that 4 year option and that the County Council Elections in England were already due on 5th May then that shaped his decision. It paid off in that he has achieved his historic Third Term for a Labour Government, albeit one that is "Labour" in name only and bears little resembence to that of Wilson , even less of Attlee. Yes, he has lost seats but still has a comfortable majority so we are stuck with him till he retires as PM, I'd guess in two years when he clocks up ten years in that office, and with the Labour Government till the next election in four or maybe five years if they are behind in the polls and losing by-elections and council seats by that time as may be the case. We will have to wait and see.
As the Mystical and Esoteric aspects to the date 05/05/05 (incidentally a date which is the same in the UK and US methods of writing the date in numbers-none of the 9/11 confusion here- what DID happen on the ninth of November 2001?). There may well be some such connections to that date but I feel that as far as the Election was concerned it was purely mundane.
