Not sure if I've missed something here, but you are aware that MQ is available online, right? It's currently as far back as April 2004, though I believe they'll go back more in time. AFAIK everything that's in the print edition is there: www.mqmagazine.co.ukSpeaking for myself, I was stunned to find that UGLE's idea of quarterly communications to its members (at least the London ones) is just a single printed copy to each lodge secretary, leaving each member to fight for... I mean share it between them. MQ is about the Communications, with filler for interest. Freemasonry Today and The Square are far better publications, IMHO, because they're dedicated to articles and items of interest. Apples and oranges. Matt, forgive me but old age is clearly creeping in and is my only excuse for missing this. Deepest apologies

I only get QC's in MQ mag - don't get sent my own copy of them. Do get sent London Column, News from NMSF and other charity bits, but can't remember seeing a specific mailing of QC's.

I used to receive, unsolicited. THREE copies, one for each Craft Lodge I was in. Now this was the "Social Clubbers" house mag par excellence, a load of "chaff" about matters of very little interest to the likes of me and which could be found in most Men's Mags. Golf competitions, adverts for over priced radios and hi-fi equipment, reviews of cars etc.
I contacted them and said, "Save your money and my time and do not send this to me" .Thankfully they have complied.
I subscribe to "Freemasonry Today", a far superior Masonic magazine and well worth the money and the time to read. I even pass it on to others. Occasionally Ibuy "The Square" and may subscribe. I have to say it, Lee's "Brighthemstone Deacon" is a far better read and more informative to the Freemason than "MQ"!
Should some matter arise affecting the Craft Lodges or RA Chapters I am in then Bro Secretary or Scribe E will inform me and other Members by letter, e-mail or at the Risings.

The old system was quite good, and when it changed I as a then Lodge Secretary used to copy the Q.C.s ,(at my own expense) and post them with the Summons etc to the Brethren and always had a few spares on my table for Visitors etc and gave a precis at the First Rising.
Like that advert, "it does what it says on the label", the Quarterly Communications did just that, told us what had happened, brief, concise and to the point, and cheap to produce and send out.
Hopefully this passing phase for a "House Mag" will cease and someone will do a Cost/Benefit Analysis and revert to the old method?

No difference at all really Bill, it's heavier? Taylorsman - I suspect the CBA has been done and went something like this: 'It costs us 'x' amount to print and distribute QC's to all members. Magazine publishing and advertising space company 'blob' offers to do it - and offer UGLE a portion of the ad revenue. They sell to anyone who will pay for the space - without checking them out (caveat emptor).' In other words it's been outsourced and will make FMH money.

I thought every mason under the EC in England got sent their own copy (unless, of course, they have requested not to receive it )? Nope, us London masons don't warrant our own copy of MQ/QC: it's one copy per lodge. The only copies I've seen have been hand-me-downs from my proposer (lodge secretary) and my great-uncle (outside London). It's abysmal.

Hi Lee, I recieved the copy of MQ and the "Deacon" many thanks. Having looked at the copy of MQ I do have to admit that it does remind me of those mags that you ponder through when waiting at the dentists. However there is some interesting reading.

Leo. i posted your copy today so it should be with you in the next few days. Lee it arrived this morning (Monday 24). Thank you for that. Just had a quick look through and I'm most impressed. Love the section "How Long Is A Cable Tow?". I had oftened wondered about this expresion. Lovely piece. For a small mag it is crammed packed with stuff and info. Well done to all concerned for setting it up.
