After reading that Irishman Robert Morrow is the Grand Secretary at U.G.L.E. I was wondering how many other Irishmen have reach such hights. Who's who at U.G.L.E.

Logging onto the UGLE Website should give you the names of the leading lights from the GM downwards.
I have met Bob Morrow a very nice guy and he didn't sound Irish to me but of course I have an Irish surname but was born in Scotland and am English by adoption having lived here for 33 of my 52 years.

I have met Bob Morrow a very nice guy and he didn't sound Irish to me...... His profile on the link say he is so one can only assume this is the case. Mind you, although I'm Irish I actually, according to some, sound like I'm from the US. "Howdy y'all" See?

The late Lord Farnham, Pro Grand Master, was an Irish peer.

Indeed, but was he an Irishman, or English with an Irish Title as was Lord Longford , former Labour MP Frank Pakenham as an Irish Title did not have a seat in the Lords- he went there as a Life Peer under the old system but was actually Earl of Longford anyway. Richard Needham was a Tory MP but had an Irish Title, he said he only used it to get a better table when dining out, etc.

Thanks for those details, Trinityman. Looks as if I was correct as he was from an English Aristocratic Family who had Irish Lands and Titles. I am reminded of the old saying, "If a cat has kittens in a kipper box that doesn't make them kippers", although like many such figures in history he may well have been a good landlord and employer etc to the people on his lands and a supporter of that community.
Maybe Leo as a definite born Irishman who lives in that Country could comment?

Ah yes, the Earl of Shannon the former and long serving PGM of Surrey, quite a remarkable old gentleman, and I think Lord Rathcreddan was Mark PGM in Oxfordshire at one time, was he also the holder of an Irish Title?

Maybe Leo as a definite born Irishman who lives in that Country could comment? Steve, Deep philosophical thinkers might perhaps suggest that being Irish is more a state of mind. There might be some truth in this. But personally I feel for someone to be actually Irish, in the genuine sense of the word, there would have to be at least some form of genetic connection, and preferably via both parents. But if a person has a Grandfather of a grandmother from the country, and they wish to claim citizenship, then I would not see a problem. However, no doubt there will be others who will have a different take this. Incidentally, I remember back in 1982, when I was living in New Jersey in the USA, I met some third generation Irish/Americans who were probably more Irish than myself! Some were extremely politically aware and had a great desire to discussed the then situation in the north of Ireland. Mind you, having said that, their particular perspective and comments were fairly biased towards the Nationalist side.
