Shotokan Karate lodge 9752 Is this a freemasons Lodge? If it is how does the Karate fit in? I am just imagining the Signs and penalties with a Karate influence

Having had the pleasure of being a guest in this lodge recently, I can say it's a lodge where most of the members have a karate interest. I believe there are a number of lodges that cater to particular professional or recreational interests, and this is one of the more recent ones.
I'll let Bro Sensei give you more information on Shotokan Lodge, as I don't want to steal his thunder. ;D

There is also a small display on this Lodge in the Museum at GQS at the moment

Like Jumile I dont' want to steal Sensei's thunder, as I imagine he'll love to answer this thread when he discovers it but, I will say quickly that it IS a regular freemason's lodge, and again as Jumile pointed out, a special interest lodge which are reasonably common. The website will give you a good idea of just how NICE of a lodge it is too. Sensei, take it from here!!

I just wish to reiterate what everyone else has said regarding Shotokan Karate lodge 9752. I don't know Sylvester (Sensi) personally but I am well aware of his credentials as a genuine, serious martial artist. I am equally aware of of his, and his lodges, authenticity in relation to Freemasonry.

Brethren and fellow Forumites. Many thanks for the kind words you have said about the Shotokan Karate Lodge. There is no need for me to explain any further, Stash, Jumile, Doric and Leonardo have all coined it up. We are extremely proud to have formed this Lodge 2 years ago with, in the main, Brethren who have a connection with Martial Arts in general but Shotokan karate in particular. We are not a closed Lodge by any means. We accept members / initiate candidates whether their interest lies in this field or not. We are members primarily for Freemasonry. We do have a few quirks which relate to our Art unique to our Lodge. I am currently Master of this Lodge and extremely proud to be so. Leonardo. I am beginning to think there is a conspiracy against me. Last Thursday at my herts Lodge - Daneswood - one of the members was appointed secretary. He has known me for at least 13 years and he called me Leslie! Closer than Sylvester or is it? Comments please.

Thanks but I am still unclear is it a Lodge of Freemasons with all the Craft degrees etc, or is it a worthy group of Karate people, with many being freemasons, that would allow outsiders like myself to visit

Whistler ,The Shotokan Karate lodge is an UGLE craft lodge just like any other so unless you are a freemason of an UGLE craft lodge you would not be allowed to visit.
As sensei explained there are quite a few martial artists.
My lodge has quite a few Plumbers and heating engineers .
There are a number of "theme" lodges and if anyone wants to start a thread on this please do so

The light is begining to dawn ;D How do theme lodges begin, like this one that is only a couple of years old.
Do Bro, in an existing lodge , realise they have something in common and go off and start another lodge, Do they still attend their mother lodge. Do they have to start from scratch with regalia, furniture and premisies. Does the new theme lodge have any financial link back to the mother lodges of the founders

On another such site I did start such a thread, but it was promptly locked! I won't start such a thread here but I really hope someone else does as it can make for some interesting reading.

Leo,
This forum does not belong to anyone. It was set up as an alternative .It has to have moderators (obviously) and is only as good as its members. The calibre of which is superb !!
I have started a themed Lodges thread and it wont be locked

If you're interested, I believe there's a book called Serendipity that I've order from Bro Bill. It contains a list of themed lodges in the UK.
You might want to bug him for a copy, too. ;D

If you do please use the "Book Review" section. Cheers.

The review is here. You surprise me, Leo - especially as you were the first respondent to the review. And it's still listed for sale on TFM's online shop ( link).

Matt It should be becoming painfully obvious to most by now that my poor overworked brain rarely functions on all cylinders. All I can do is plead senility. ;D
