The first Lodge of Rehearsal gets going in a couple of hours time, for my debut as a TB lecturer this month. It's my first piece of 'ritual' and I'm pretty excited about it, having worn a groove from endless pacing up and down the kitchen floor reciting and memorising. I've found that reciting while driving is of limited value - it's difficult to concentrate on both driving and getting the lecture right. My cat makes a good "practice candidate", and I think I'll run it by him one more time before heading off to Lodge tonight. "Brother Barney. The usages and customs STOP SCRATCHING UP THE BL**DY COUCH!! of Freemasonry ..." ;D

I hope it was wonderful!! And that you'll tell us how it went ;D It went extremely well. We practiced it as a simulation and had all of the Brethren except the Boss and the IPM sit in the North (the other Officers, of course, will remain at their posts when we do it for real). This made a goodly audience, and I didn't end up with my back to anyone. Instead of just standing by the TB, I "begged the WM's leave to perambulate the lodge", so I could point out the various Ornaments, Furniture, and Jewels to which the lecture refers. The Brethren were unanimous in saying that this worked very well, so I'll do it on the night. Applause in the Lodge room is generally 'not done', but I was applauded last night. Two more rehearsals, then the real McCoy. Tony

Something that may (or may not!) be of use to those of us who are doing charges in Lodge. Here are three voice exercises to limber up your tongue, which might be of much utility if employed on your way to lodge beforehand (it worked for me). Try reciting these a dozen or so times each, being careful to enunciate each word clearly: Imagine an imaginary menagerie manager, imagining he's managing an imaginary menagerie. She stood upon the balcony inexplicably mimicking him hiccuping and amicably welcoming him in. Chew stew Tuesday, Choose stew Tuesday, Tuesday is stew day. These are exercises employed by thespians of old, and they can do wonders for your diction. Tony

Very cool exercises, yup. My diction is pretty good, though there is this little twang . . . I'm glad you're getting a chance to rehearse, in lodge, before the main event. And it sounds like you're going to be ready for the big night. No nerves, K? Just remember, underneath all those clothes, everyone is in their underwear (well, most everyone). So nothing to be nervous about

Doing it all again tonight ... Rehearsal number 2. We're also running through the opening and closing of the lodge, which gives our new WM and his merry men a bit of practice. I might sneak into Lodge a bit early, put a few beers in the fridge for later, and then have a dry run through the TB before anyone else gets there.

Last night was opening night for "Tony's TB Show". ;D I presented the lecture in open Lodge, but as a simulation as we had no candidate. There was so much blue sitting in the East that it looked like being a fine evening, and so it turned out to be - the lecture went really well and the Brn. were very enthusiastic afterwards. I have to admit that I silently requested some very high-powered help during the opening and business part of the meeting, which request was granted, in Spades. Quite a night. Tony
