A litigious society.
Terence Dixon of Bristol, Pennsylvania was leaving a house he had just finished robbing by way of the garage. He was not able to get the garage door to go up since the automatic door opener was malfunctioning. He could not re-enter the house because the door connecting the house and garage locked when he pulled it shut.
The family, the owners of the property, were on vacation and Mr Dixon found himself locked in the garage for eight days. He subsisted on a case of Pepsi he found and a large bag of dried dogfood. He sued the house owners insurance claiming the situation caused him undue mental anguish. The jury agreed to the tune of 500,000 dollars.

I was going to post on this but the entire inversion of the situation vis a vis the honest citizen who is the victim and the sub human scum such as burglars, muggers etc who pray upon him makes me so angry that I had better not for fear of starting a flame war with those of a more "liberal" outlook as we do not need that sort of controversy here.

Quite right to Taylorsman, It would not do to upset anyone. And any way the avoidance of controversy is your middle name ::

Great idea and a Happy Ending too! I only hope that this criminal, who was "Known to Police" as they say, gets a nice long custodial sentence, but I won't hold my breath. Some bleeding heart Lawyer will get him off or a light punishment instead.

he got 11 months according to the story the link points to.
and he was already on bail for a similar offence - heres an idea.
We have over 70 thousand people locked up in this country, can't we reintroduce forced labour or something and make use of them?

11 months, this means he'd be out in about eight! I pray for the day when proper justice is dished out to these people who commit such crime.
I doubt if the "do-gooders" would be so soft on the robbers if their places were broken into.
