To Mike who is a little nervous about me.. I have been a Mason for over 20 Years, A RWM 3 Times, I have passed through the veils, and am currently the M.E.P of a chapter of the Holy Royal Arch for the second time. I have inherited Ritual for a number of Male Craft Lodges I know all the S.W. T's of the Degrees I am in, and some I am not. I also know the penalties for each degree. (Which happen to be the same as I have read in the Male Craft Ritual) Mike If you care to read my posts both here and on the other place you will notice I have never revealed any S.W.or T's, or secret ritual The only time I wasn't sure was when I queried the 2nd Perfect Ashlar, I notice in Lodge 710...in that case I said if it was not appropriate to answer me please don't.. If you wish to read anything I post please try and understand my words and if you wish discuss the topic, please do not destroy the intent by attacking the author, if you feel strongly use this "talking Chaff Thread' and express your opinion and leave the original thread for discussion on the topic intended HGW

It's not for me to defend Mike IPM, I'm sure he can do so for himself.
However, I feel this is a question of interpretation. In UGLE and no doubt in other Constitutions a Brother is charged from the outset to keep secrets both in the words he repeats and swears to in his Obligation as an EA and in the Charge to the Initiate and subsquently.
Now I interpret secrets very tightly to mean only those Signs and Tokens and Words by which we are known to each other and distinguished from the World at Large who are not Masons. So to me it is no problem to speak of parts of the Ceremony etc. Some Brethren take a far wider interpretation and will not discuss anything to do with our Ceremonies, some even refuse to acknowledge that they are Masons at all!
Now there are those who feel that to reveal any part of the Ceremonies will "Spoil it for the Candidate". I consider that to be no more than a "Received Wisdom" and thus not necessarily correct. It depends a lot on the Candidate and I tailor my response to such a question to the man. I personally don't like suprises neither do I turn to the final chapter of a book when I read it. I feel that the book "Beyond the Craft" has it right. It imparts enough information about an Order to enable the Mason to decide if it is for him, and to see if he is qualified to join it, but does not give the game away either.
So I feel that Mike was merely following the commonly held opinion on this question of the Tyler. For my part I would be happy to tell people most of what a Tyler does, (and a lot of it is prosaic), laying out the Lodge, collecting up after the Meeting etc. I would only demur when it came to anything impinging on the S,T,Ws already refered to, and by extension the Knocks given on the Door, though to he who has an ear to hear, let him hear!

Yes Taylorman a good answer. A comment - and it is not a secret....The setting out and breaking down of the lodge - is not the preserve of the Tyler, We all muck in and do it..
I also would not discuss anything that would spoil a ceremony.
Any subject I discuss is already in the Public Arena, Certainly Items we have in our lodge - as the Doves on the Wands. The position in the lodge of The Officers and why, they are, probably reasonable to discuss As the tyling of a person and a Lodge _ I Certainly would not wish to discuss in any way the progress of a neophyte throuh a ritual.
To talk in public about certain aspects of Freemasonry is good - and puts the Knockers in place.
The Tyler subject I raised - regardless of any esoteric opinion - the post clearly states to anybody who cares to read it, that Freemasons work to make themselves better people.
