What books could anyone recommend for a new EA? Don't want to spoil anything by getting too deep with 2nd/3rd deg stuff!
Looking forward to my 2nd in September.

try The EAs handbook by JSM Ward available from Lewis Masonic Books.
It explains all about the degree and the meaning.
when you are a FC you can then get the Fc handbook and MM Handbook for the Master Mason when you reach that degree

Many Thanks for the recomendation. There was a copy on ebay, which I won this afternoon! Hope that it makes a good read!
What are peoples thoughts on 'The Brotherhood' By Stephen Knight?
Is this a balanced view, or just another of the seemingly anti books?

Squared, if you are short of paper for the WC then that would be good use for Mr Knight's useless, biased and very inaccurate book! He can't do us any more damage as he is now safely dead, but his book was harmful to The Craft when it came out.

try The EAs handbook by JSM Ward available from Lewis Masonic Books. Is this book or the Moral Teachings book, OK for someone who hasn't been initiated yet?

Temple, Although I havn't read this book yet, my understanding is that it explains the meaning of the Initiation ceremony. Hence I would say that it is unsuitable for a non mason, until initiated. Will let you know once it turns up...

My EA's Handbook turned up last week, Many Thanks Staffs for the recomendation. Once my time comes round, I will be ordereing the FC version for sure.
This little book should be standard issue, along with the book of constitutions and the 1st Degree Ritual book.
It is written is simple(ish) language, and explains many of the smaller seemingly unimportant parts to the ceremony. Certainly however best left until initiated, as it would probably not make too much sense! Any new EA's will benefit from this book.

Hi Squared,
As stated by others, there are books on the internet you can read.
I have also looked at AN EXAMINATION OF THE MASONIC RITUAL - BY MEREDITH SANDERSON. This has a forward by JSM Ward. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd degrees are available.
If you are looking for something more philosophical try THE LOST KEYS OF FREEMASONRY or The Secret of Hiram Abiff by MANLY P. HALL
