Seriously worth getting -- it's infinitely better than the cinema release.

Cheers.

Lemme know what you think of it -- we were gobsmacked, mainly by the fact that the editors in their infinite wisdom had chosen to cut all this out! I mean, most "Director's Cuts" show you the deleted scenes and you think to yourself "Aye, I can see why they cut that", but in this case it is genuinely baffling. As a writer myself I just cannot understand what moved them to cut such crucially supporting material as the full Sybilla story. Apart from "It's too long and complicated for our audience". Yeah, that'll be your Hollywood audience then. Cora

I will let you know but from what you say it sounds like they messed up big time with the first cut. Even so I really enjoyed this movie as it was but now I am really looking forward to getting me hands on this director's cut.
Incidentally, I know this is not the place for me to tell people about this truly wonderful book called the Religion but as it has a very similar theme and feel to KOH I though I'd mention it anyway.
I will work on a proper review and place it more appropriately.

If it's not too late, go to CD-wow instead: £17-18 (depending on whether you choose region 2 or 3 - the only difference is the cover). They also have free shipping, same as Play.

I was going to place the order this evening but will now check out the company you suggested. Thanks Thomas.

K, does the director's cut do anything to *fix* the false impression I got from the original release that the Templars were these evil folks out to destroy this utopian-United-Nations-thing EVERYONE else in Jerusalem had going on? If not . . . all the garb eye candy in all the world isn't gonna make it worth it for me.

Ridley Scott is known to do his research and do it well -- a good example worth following. Just because he takes an unpopular view doesn't make it false. S&F, Cora

Jews, Christians, Muslims living peacibly side by side in Christian controlled Jerusalem . . . didn't happen.
I realize that the makers of this films *had* to have a single set of bad guys to concentrate on (audiences aren't deemed capable of perceiving shades of grey). They couldn't set up the Hospitallers to be the all-bad guys because there are still Hospitallers in the world who might be offended. The Templars were suppressed long ago, so they were the chosen straw man and EVERYONE else is portrayed as good but manipulated by Templars.
I found it interesting that they dress Guy de Lusignan as a Templar but never say he was a Templar - which indeed he wasn't. But he's a bad guy so must be visually seen as such.
There's also this interesting scene in which Balian is attacked by folks dressed as Hospitallers. But we're assured, later, nah, they really were Templars. The costuming snafu is not, itself, explained. Which leads me to suspect there was, maybe for a time, an effort made for a more balanced portrayal. I would that effort had succeeded.
And that part at the end where Saladin just lets everyone go . . . fact is, he demanded a sizable ransom for every soul in the city. And it was the Templars who remained in the city (clerics and administrators, none of the Knights) who emptied their order's treasury in an attempt to pay it (there wasn't enough. And the Bishop and Patriarch of Jerusalem - who is rather accurately portrayed though, shockingly, not portrayed as a Templar - left the city with his treasure while thousands were enslaved by Saladin and his men). What a noble thing for those evil Templars to do. But they've been portrayed as bad guys thru the movie prior, so this inconvenient fact was simply ignored.
The sad thing is (and perhaps this is why it doesn't make a good story), there were so very few purely good or bad folk in that whole nasty part of history. And no real heros. Just a whole bunch of people spilling blood in the name of the same God thru whom were they all siblings. And it continues, even with no Templars to goad us on.
Now I do have friends, including you, who say I should see the director's cut, that it's different, that sooooo much is explained that was left out of the original. But, so far, I've heard nothing about the basic premise of the original release being corrected. So, for the moment, I'd rather curl up with Wilmshurst. Unlike the makers of this film, he hasn't lied to me yet.

Relax imakegarb.
If the film causes you such distress then just let it go. You'll feel better if you do.
Whining about it only makes it worse.

Yeah, well . . . if they hadn't killed off that really hot Norski dude at the beginning . . . I think I could have ignored everything else if I'd had him to stare at the rest of the time
