Y'know, this is a rare thing for me. I almost never, ever post in forums where Freemasonic objections are voiced as I have little patience with the foil-hat crowd. However, this forum seems more comfortable than most. And it brought something to my mind that I've been wanting to ask. What is the strangest/oddest/mostly mind boggling - but serious - question you've ever fielded about Freemasonry? I got mine before I was even initiated: "Is it true that Freemasons can marry only other Freemasons?" As I recall, my answer was, "Uuuuuh, no." So far, that's my strangest. What's your's?

"I got mine before I was even initiated: "Is it true that Freemasons can marry only other Freemasons?"" ;D ;D ;D Love it! I remember once, about four years ago, asking on another Masonic forum (TFM) (for a bit of fun what did Masons eat for breakfast? My question received some wonderful responses. One of my favourite threads it was, and I believe it is still there! I just love talking about food

I forgot to mention that I know someone, a C0-Mason, who was initiated into Freemasonry on the same day as his wife...........28 years ago! So some Mason are married to fellow Masons

I know more than a few such couples, too ;D But they don't *have* to marry other Freemasons. Yes, I've already done the math and I realize I have a LOT to gain from such an edict but . . . the answer remains, "Uuuuuh, no."

I imagine for a Masonic couple it must be kind of special; they can share so much together, especially if they're both attending the same Lodge, going through rituals together, and so on. Much to talk about and bounce off each other until the next meeting.

The Masonic couples I know are among the most beautiful pairings ever I've met, yup I never mention it to the BF (though he asks lots of questions, reads a lot of my books and tells me, repeatedly, he's not interested) but there are times that I do, very much, wish I could share this with him

It may well happen that the seed has been planted, so you never know.
How long have you been together?

What is the strangest/oddest/mostly mind boggling - but serious - question you've ever fielded about Freemasonry? Interesting topic! As webmaster of several Masonic sites and Secretary of a lodge, I get my share of queries from non-Masons. Maybe the weirdest was, "Is it true that Freemasons run the multi-billion dollar slot-machine industry?" That was from a lady enquirer, probably in her early twenties -- she said she was still a student. I was about to say "No way," but something made me pause and ask her why she thought there was a connection. She said she'd played several machines with Masonic themes, covered with Masonic symbols. I'd love to see those machines, but as slot-machine manufacturers switch models every few months, they're probably long gone.

I wouldn't mind seeing such a slot machine either but I imagine the chances they exist are slim. Is it possible the young lady was confused?

So some Mason are married to fellow Masons and the years just keep on rolling on. It is certainly a great help in learning ritual if there is somebody close to work with. As time goes on and one becomes "Recycled" we both have had the opportunity to install each other it the Chair of KS. It is also nice to share the pleasure of a partner for a ceremony well worked.

Is it possible the young lady was confused? Possible, but I doubt it. We exchanged lots of messages and it turned out that she was addicted to Pachislot machines, the ones that combine regular reels with something close to a video game. I think that's where the FM symbols came in. Maybe the machines she saw were based on a National Treasure hunt, or an Illuminati theme. I wish I could say that she developed an interest in FM and petitioned a lodge, but our email dialog petered out soon after and I never heard from her again.

Hi Gaslight. It is a shame she didn't keep up contact but let's be optimistic: we can always hope her interest developed further and she decided to join a lodge Interesting suggestion about National Treasure, though.

Well, as a matter of fact, neither of us watches television. Perhaps that's why we get along so well. And a slot machine with Masonic symbols . . . oh, the fun we could have with that ;D

Hmmmm. Well, as a matter of fact, neither of us watches television. Perhaps that's why we get along so well. You may have a point there. Many an argument has erupted in my household because of the telly, but when you have five young kids this isn't too surprising ;D Just to return to the topic of the thread for a moment: I was talking to a an FM friend the other day about this very subject and he told me that one of the strangest questions he was ever asked was, and I kid you not: Do Masons only drive certain cars!? Turned out the guy asking the question thought Freemasonry was similar to the Jewish religion and apparently Orthodox Jews tend to drive only cars manufactured by Volvo.

Hmmmmm. Sounds like he has something of a misunderstanding about Jews and Freemasons. I know Orthodox Jews and, thinking about it for the the first time, I don't think any of those that I know drive Volvos. I, uh, don't think I'll ask
