we are all likely bound to the Gregorian calendar for our external lives, is anyone here doing anything with or attempting to make use of any other timekeeping methods for your inner purposes? any good primer resources you recommend? total noob on this topic, but it came up in a discussion with a friend and i'm curious.

I personally don't know why we don't have 13 months of 28 days. I suppose there is a good reason.

i don't know enough to have formed any useful opinions yet but what i'm finding is fascinating. here's a nice list: www.kelsung.com/calendar.htmand i just stumbled upon this www.hermetic.ch/cal_stud/palmen/lweek1.htm#rules from a group who appears to make a variety of PC software apps ranging in purpose from embedding data inside imagery to Mayan calendar conversion to "exploring the theory of Timewave Zero". yowser!

The reason would seem to be the adoption of the solar calendar by the Roman Empire and early Church. Even the Essenes used a solar calendar in preference to the lunar, though no-one knows why. This replaced the Jewish calendar, which was lunar; though the importance of Easter in Christianity, which is of course identical to the Jewish feast of Peshach, the Passover, means that the lunar calendar is still observed in the placing of this festival in the ecclesiastical calendar. This is why it is a moveable feast, necessarily shifting its position in relation to the phases of the moon. It is also well documented that the name Easter derives from the fertitlity goddess Oestre, and that her name is etymologically identical with the word oestrus. But you knew that

'Cause 13x28=364 which means we would have 1.25 days left over and the government would have to issue yet another holiday! Who would pay for this?!?!?! They would just print some more money. It grows on trees, you know.

That's right, it does.
Of course, you have to fell at least 78% of your greenbelt to prevent devaluation.
