for those of u who missed it, france beat ireland in soccer and knocked them out of the wc with a hands ball (cause the ref didnt see)..
should (iyo) the match be replayed? should the rules change? (atm the referees word is final) is this a typical case of tradition being counterproductive?

I vote for tradition being counterproductive... where would we be in most areas if we did not make use of the latest in technology to help make decisions.

It's up to the refs to enforce the rules, not for the players to obey them.
France has won world cups recently, what has Ireland done?
Who gives a crap for a "floppers" sport like soccer anyway? ;D

no wonder the world is going to hell.. players must obey the rules.. if they dont, theyre penalized if the ref saw.. problem: the ref doesnt always see..
how is that relevant?
u thought it was about sports? lol

Re the sham win by France of the match against Ireland.
should (iyo) the match be replayed? YES
should the rules change? (atm the referees word is final) YES
is this a typical case of tradition being counterproductive? YES and this can often be a stumbling block in Freemasonry too!
Returning to the specifics. If the French were sportsmen they would get their Football Association to demand that this game be replayed. Henry's handball changed the entire outcome and led to a goal in extra time which defeated the Irish. Had the Ref seen it then a penalty would have been give to Ireland whch would most likely have gone in the net.
I hope the French get knocked out in the opening round by some obscure team but if they do go on to win the World Cup it will be a tainted trophy in the circumstances.

"Henry admits replay would be fair": news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/internationals/8370764.stmInteresting quote from Arsene Wenger (who is French, of course): "For the sense of justice it is quite embarrassing to see. I think even France is embarrassed. We didn't play well at all and we won the game and won the qualification with a goal that was not a goal."

i think most of france agrees with that and would also like to see the match replayed.. most important is (imo) that we recognize this lesson and act on it..

Some may feel that if Thierry Henry was genuinely concerned with fairness he’d have gone to the referee at the time of the incident and explained what had happened, coming out now with such comments could be viewed as an effort at damage limitations. In my view I doubt he’ll ever be regarded in the same light as before.

ur prolly right.. if the fifa doesnt come back on its decision, thierry could very well be known as thieffy H. (especially in ireland lol).. nevertheless, we shouldnt (imo) divert attention from the system that made it possible..
