Bro Bill, it would be far better if instead of making exceptions such as this UGLE scrapped its rule about Honorary Membership and deemed all Brethren who were given this by their Lodges to be fully paid up at Gt Queen Street or at most required the Lodge to pay a nominal amount say £10 for any Honorary Member when the Secretary submitted the Annual Return and Capitation Fees for the Members in the Lodge as at the Installation.
That way this particular problem and that of an Honorary Member being precluded from Visitation to any other Lodge but once, (a rule I can tell you is often deliberately ignored), would not arise. I have known elderly Brethren who would have benefited from Honorary Membership refusing that honour from their Lodge as it would prevent them Visiting even as a paid for guest at the FB of some other Mason.

Well I found a neat way round it, but don't tell UGLE.
If you have a member who you would like to have as an honorary member then by all means vote him in as such. But make sure he is not due for anything special in your particular Lodge.
Then you enrol him in your Local Past Masters Lodge, which in Essex costs £ 20 a year.
Essex Masters - I just paid but I think it is going up to £25. But its 1/3 rd of the Lodge fees.
He then retains his rights to visit and keeps his rights under long service awards.

Am I reading this correctly??? An honorary member is NOT considered a Freemason, therefore cannot have his 60 year certificate even if he has been a Freemason for 60 years?
There's something surely askew at the logic of all this!
And Bro. Lauderdale, thankyou for the letter - I for one had not seen it in whatever other place it was posted.

Bro JMD, see my reply on the Honorary Membership thread as this topic has been set up as a new thread away from this one on Halcyon Lodge. Perhaps you may wish to move your own post ther?

Well Brandt, I think you Guys are into Politics you just don't know it yet. You see ordinary people say something and others don't believe them. Then they get really angry because they know what they are saying is true and why the hell don't all these idiots understand that its the truth. But the Politician knows that no one is going to believe him, doesn't matter if he is telling the truth or not. So he does not get upset and arms himself with a battery of answers and proof that he is telling the truth. Unfortunately we are fully aware of it. We do not want to be but such is the way of the world. There is nothing inherently wrong with politics. There is something wrong with how people meet each other. They don't meet on the level and require that others agree with them. I have my own theories as to why that is but that is beyond the scope of this particular thread. Euclid will continue to talk and negotiate until we just can't do so any longer or an equitable solution is found. That takes communication, openness and Brotherhood to accomplish. Brandt

I am glad to see that Freemasonry is being brought back to what it was ment to be from the start. Freemasonry isn't a lodge room, a patch, a fancy apron, a BBQ or Fish fry and it certainly isn't all of this political handringing BS. It is an idea, and a progressive science that resides in mind, soul and very fabric of the Freemason.
While the bobbleheads cry in thier beer, let hose of us who embrace the light be warmed by it's glow.
