I will be in Dublin next month with a few brothers from Scotland. We were thinking about visiting the GL of Ireland. It looks very interesting from what I find on the net. Have any brothers here visited the GL of Ireland?

I have no ill-feeling or anger towards my old lodge. I just don't like the direction they are moving in , and its not just the lodge i left its all the lodges in my state. I honestly think they have all lost the plot, that's if there was ever a plot.
I also have all my demit paper for GL, so if I ever chose to join another lodge, i have all the paper work needed.
Brothers I know from the UK have visited numerous times and everyone says if masonry was like this in UK , no one would attend, simple as that. Masonic lodges are treated like coffee shops by old guys with nothing better to do.

I have no intention of joining another lodge in my state , Freemasonry here has become so diluted and hi-jacked by the biblical right wing. Where were you first made Mason ? In my heart . That question answers all the questions NPD=Non payment of dues

Brothers , thank you for your help. I spoke to the secretary (who is a good friend of mine)from the lodge in Scotland and he is going to get in touch with GL of Scotland to find out the correct way of going about this. Br.maximus , I do not know where you are a mason , but I have been a Mason in Florida for just over 5 years. I have tried to introduce little changes but everything gets shot down in flames. I am a Mason from Florida, I have no desire to belong to a lodge in Florida any more as I feel Masonry here is so diluted and has lost the way. I was made an Honorary member of a lodge in Scotland last year. If I demit from my lodge in Florida will I still be able to attend lodge meeting in Scotland or elsewhere
Thanks in advance

Brother Andy,
Its not my lodge , that's the way all lodge work in Florida, its all about family , NOTHING about the meaning of degrees , rituals etc.
I was at a meeting a few weeks ago , its called Masters and Wardens on a Saturday morning, its very casual etc. Its really just about whats going on at different lodges in the area. there were two wife's who sat in on the meeting!!!!
The secretary at my lodge seems to think he runs the lodge , or should I say ,he thinks he runs it with his wife. He has promised Brothers who have not even been Master Masons for 8 months the JD & SD positions. I know for a fact it wont happen as I will be SD.
When you look at any information about the GL of Florida and its meetings and minutes.
You will see the officers name and its brackets next to his name is his wife's name. Because she is in the Eastern Star!!!!!!
Eastern Star has nothing to masonry .
I was told as were most of the newer Brother is that you CAN NOT be WM if you are not in the Eastern Star !!!!!!
Which is total Bollocks, but thats how the run things here is Florida.

It looks like Installation next year will not be going ahead as planned.Grand Lodge of Scotland are dragging there heels and throwing obstacles in the way.
Thats a great pity because we worked very hard behind the scenes to get the go ahead from GL of Florida.
Kudos must go to the GM and GS, DDGM they did a great job on granting us a dispensation .

Sorry for taking so long to reply, On open installation , is open to anyone who wants to attend, people could walk in off the street if they wanted to!
The Master of Ceremonies is usually a Past Master.
The incoming officers sit west of the alter.
Wives or Girl Friends can sit next to the officers seat in the lodge. The MC introduces ALL Past Masters, then all members of York Rite, Scottish Rite, Eastern Star, High Twelve, Shrine, Grotto,Rainbow Girls, Jobs Daughters, Tall Cedars,Amaranth and asked to stand in turn. But the best is something called the Yellow Dogs and when the MC asks Yellows dogs to rise, the stand up , bark and scratch there ear!!!!
When all that insanity is over, the Marshall installs the new WM, he is then told what his duties are as WM and is read his obligation, and he is led to the east by one of the Rainbow Girls.
This is done with all the new officers.
The new WM is presented with a new gavel by one of the rainbow Girls and she gives him a talk on how important the gavel is.
Two years ago when the WM was installed his wife stood by him and a woman from the Eastern Star sung "wind beneath my wings", my God was that cringworthy!
last year the WM Mother, gave some kinda ode to a sailor, then three other women from the Eastern Star, joined her for some kind Sailors Horn pipe, and finished it off with " Aye Aye captain , over to you" I didn't know if I should laugh or cry.
As you can see there is nothing about masonry, they are more interested in having some kind of Church type function.

We are looking into esoteric masonry and trying to get away from the old mans coffee club and the Eastern Star BS .
Could any of you learned Brothers recommend any website or books for teaching/learning the esoteric side of Masonry.

Its Forfar and Kincardine Lodge No 225.
We are planning a media blitz for this historic event. I think we can seat a little over a hundred in our lodge room, we want every seat filled. We are sending emails and fliers to every lodge in Florida.
The one good thing is it will be a closed installation, that's something that isnt done in my neck of the woods.

Last week our Lodge has been given the green light from the GL of Florida for a Lodge from Dundee to come to Florida next January and install our 2010 officers. The Ceremony will be the way it is done in Scotland, there will have to be some subtle changes but these will be kept to a minimum.
We are all very excited that this historic event will take place at our Lodge. ;D

I have a very good friend in Dundee who is seriously thinking about becoming a Mason. His major concern is the time or lack of time he could devote to going through the degrees. He is a Taxi driver so works most nights.
How long does it normally take to go through the three degrees?
And how much memory work is involved? I showed him how much memory work we have to do here in Florida,he said he could never do that, but I remember saying the same.
Any information that could be of help will be gratefully accepted.
