What medicine Steve? What are those who think it is a social club done to deserve such treatment? I'm not talking about those overbearing twits that spoil peoples experience, but those who come along and enjoy the social side and donate to charity - there is nothing wrong with that, and you would soon find we had very few people in masonry if you insisted on people adopting the esoteric view to remain members. Plus which esoteric view do you take? 'Cos there are huge variations in interpretation within that field itself.

Not an excuse Stewart - its an acceptance of fact. And although you accept that freemasonry has valuable moral lessons and should be viewed as a means of self improvement, to some of it's members it's a social thing that raises money for charity. I'm not about to tell them to leave freemasonry - would you?

It all really boils down to communication, the guys at the lodge in question should have spoken to the chap sooner, the ones who were upset should have spoke up and the chap himself should be more attuned to the reactions and sensibilities of others. Yes, it is a crying shame that masons don't listen to the lessons and morality of freemasonry more, but it is people we are talking about - with all the frailties and failings that humans have.
You also have to accept the fact that the concept of bullying that we know today is a relatively new one, and one that is changing and developing, and we have to allow time to educate people to the 'new way'.
One only has to listen to the rantings of mittel englanders about how the country is full and we shouldn't accept asylum seekers, etc, etc, to realise how much work is still to be done in educating people....

You've got it spot on right there Wayne, these people are very often over enthusiastic rather than malicious, and some people are simply quite easily upset - Stewart has admitted he would be one who would fall into this category. This sort of co-ercion or verbal bullying is rife in all aspects of life, freemaosnry is not alone, and it is found considerably less there than it is in other areas of life, areas where you would reasonably expect higher standards. One only has to look at the activities of Prescot, Blair, etc in the recent events in Wales and London - when they didn't get there own way they resorted to intimidation and threats - because they knew their argument wasn't strong enough.
Stewart, perhaps you should enter politics and change things from the top down? Much more useful to society than trying to influence the activites of GL.

Some enlightening info on this film can be found here. An excerpt: ....little attention has been given to either the film's agenda, or its questionable use of supposed experts. At least one scientist prominently interviewed in the film now says his words were taken out of context. And two other key subjects in the film are not fully identified: a theologian who, the film fails to divulge, is a former priest who left the Catholic Church after allegations of sexual abuse; and a mysterious woman identified only as Judy "JZ" Knight, who is actually a sect leader claiming to channel a 35,000-year-old warrior spirit named Ramtha. The film's three co-directors are among those who follow Ramtha and look to Knight's channeled maxims to decipher the mysteries of life. These Ramtha followers reportedly number in the thousands. But critics call the sect a cult.

Interestingly enough the film has been universally panned by the critics in the UK....

You know how it is my opinion that Freemasonry has lost its way. Well, I know that there is nothing new with what is happening in science (conceptually, and in as opposed to the science), but, if current trends continue there is I think the real risk that Freemasonry will loose its place in the general scheme of things. That said the darkest time is just before the dawn so to speak. Hopefully Freemason(ry)(s) will soon find what it/they have lost. It really is within your grasp. Stewart now avidly awaits the DVD coming out on region 2. Bod avidly awaits the reversion of stewarts recto cranial inversion......

Wow!
If the trailer is anything to go by it's going to be a very good film
I've made a note of when it comes to the Barbican and will hopefully get to see it then.
Thanks Andrew

If the title alone doesn't prompt those with an interest in masonry to head to the library or bookshop then nothing will! I've read many of Christian Jacq's novels - they are translated from the original French into english - and they are always a great read. They are historical fiction, not factual novels, however, the level of historical knowlege this man has is considerable!
Author details:
"Born in Paris in 1947, Christian Jacq first visited Egypt when he was seventeen, went on to study Egyptology and archaeology at the Sorbonne, and is now one of the world's leading Egyptologists. He is the author of the internationally bestselling RAMSES series, THE PLACE OF TRUTH series, THE QUEEN OF FREEDOM trilogy and the stand-alone novel, THE BLACK PHARAOH. Christian Jacq lives in Switzerland."
Synopsis: "The story of the friendship between King Solomon and his craftsman, and their desire for the same woman: the Queen of Sheba 980 B.C. Having succeeded in bringing peace and prosperity to his people, King Solomon, the son of David, is determined to build a magnficient temple on the rock of Jerusalem. A temple where the sacred Ark of the Covenant could be housed. A temple to rival in splendour the great pyramids of Egypt: a land he both loathed and admired. As no Hebrew craftsman could succeed in such an enterprise, Solomon summoned an expert mason from Phoenicia: Master Hiram, a strange, solitary man well-versed in the innovative techniques of Egyptian architecture. So began an uneasy friendship between the King and the craftsman. A friendship which bridged two very different cultures and civilisations. A friendship thrown in turmoil when the two men fell in love with the same woman: Balkis, the beautiful Queen of Sheba. "
ISBN: 067102857X Title: Master Hiram & King Solomon Author: Christian Jacq
Opinion: A good story - familiar to most masons, and to those who are familiar with Solomon as a biblical figure. Covering the period from Davids death through the creation of the Temple, the novel explores the human relationship between these two men, and the trials and tribulations they encounter in creating the Temple.
I enjoyed the book, as I have all of his books. I thoroughly recommend them all!

I don't believe it is still published. I did pick up a second had copy earlier this year for about £12.00. It's not a bad little book, but if you have been a mason for a while - say more than three years - then there is not that much in this book for you.

Oh dear Leo - now you're confusing new members with your Dan Brown obsession - time to come out of the closet and admit you are DB's publicist and agent for Ireland... ;D ;D 'TDVC' is Leo short hand for 'The Da Vinci Code'

Could we be looking at another Grand Slam year for wales? I hope so! xiii - the tickets you seek may be more rare than the genuine secrets of a master mason.... www.irishrugby.ie/21_898.phpCroke Park is a fantastic stadium, I was there a few years ago for a hurling semi final, an amazing sport, I definitely recommend you trying to catch a game while you are there, you can check out the GAA website for more info on the strange stick and ball games they play.... www.gaa.ie/
